A Loss of Hope

The Door

Amity, Boscha, Willow, and Gus all walked out of Hexside together, all wearing smiles across their faces. 

"Ok ok, but what if the demon could give you unlimited power? You're telling me you wouldn't marry it?" Gus asks while showing the three girls a picture of a monstrous demon in his demonology textbook.

Boscha looks at the young illusion witch in disgust "Ew no! Not even for unlimited power!"

The Blight rolls her eyes "You wouldn't be saying all this, two years ago." She motions towards Willow and Boscha shrugs in response.

"Well Augustus didn't ask the question two years ago, did he!!" The three-eyed witch says in a mocking tone. The green-haired witch and the pink-haired witch both stick their tongues out at each other like children, teasing each other. 

Willow laughs and throws her arm around her girlfriend, snapping her out of her childish behavior "Anyway, what are we going to do today? The first day of senior year calls for a celebration! How about Cerberus Coffee Bean Blood shop?"

Gus' ears perk up and his eyes shine "YES! They have the best hot coffee bean blood around! I heard the Hellfire drink actually burned a witch's tongue clean off!"

"I'm down!" Boscha says while directing her attention to her green-haired friend, waiting to see her response. 

The Blight just smiles at all her friends and shrugs "Sure why not."

But before the four could begin their journey, Owlbert flies into Gus' face, knocking the young witch down and into the mud. While Boscha laughs, Willow helps the witch up, and Amity picks up the familiar palisman. She dusts off the owl and examines him for any injuries. After checking him out entirely, the witch finally speaks up "Owlbert, is everything alright with the Owl Lady?"

Owlbert shakes his head and flaps his wings. He motions with his head for the four witches to follow him. Then the owl starts to fly away in the direction of the Owl House. But before anyone could speak a word, the Blight began to run into the woods with full force.

"Ug! There she goes! What, isn't it like the twentieth time that wooden bird has come and lead her to that rinky-dink house?" Boscha rolls her three eyes, watching her friend run into the woods.

Willow follows Amity with her eyes, filling with concern "Unfortunately. And every time, she has been heartbroken. I'm not sure how much she can take anymore. Remember the last time Eda sent for her?"

Gus brushes the dirt off of his school uniform and sighs "We all remember. It doesn't get any easier for any of us either. Especially her."

"Yeah, I literally had to drag her out of bed for like two weeks. I miss Luz too, but I think we have to prepare ourselves that she might not ever return." Boscha says in a whisper, beginning her walk to the Owl House with her girlfriend and Gus.

Gus' lip quivers and he grabs the plant witch's hand for comfort as they journey after the now distant Blight "I don't want to think about that right now. Especially not today."

Willow willingly grabs her friend's hand and squeezes it "I know, but Bosch is right." It pains Willow to say it but deep down she's been preparing herself for this moment since the day the portal exploded. "I miss Luz as much as the next witch but it's been four years. I'm just afraid that some of us will have a harder time accepting it."

The rest of the walk was silent, as the three just thought of the good times with their human. How they missed her so much it pained them. Thankfully they have had each other to get through this, but at some point, maybe their dear friend Luz will forever just be a memory.
