Mr. Perfectly fine

Y/N's POV

"No way, did he really?" I ask in surprise.

"Yep." She nods in confirmation. I raise my eyebrows, taking a sip of my coffee.

It was Friday afternoon, and we both had no classes. This meant a weekly catch up and gossip with my best friend.

We meet up in our usual coffee shop, and hang out as we always do. She asks the waitress for another cup of coffee, as I'm still pondering what she told me.

"But what about—"

My question is cut off by the ring of the bell on the door, indicating that someone had entered. She waves at the person, smiling at them.

I look up to see who it was and I'm greeted by a familiar face. It was Brian. I wave at him as well.

"Hey," he says as he walks over to us.

"Hey Bri, how are you?"

"I'm good, how are you girls?" he asks us.

"Hanging in there," I reply with a laugh, which makes him chuckle too.

"Do you wanna sit with us?" Y/F/N looks over at me, and I nod.

"Um, yeah sure," he replies with a smile. He pulls out the chair and takes a seat. Brian and I were mutual friends; we met through Y/F/N who went to school with him.

That's also how I ended up meeting... him. My thoughts are interrupted as someone else walks through the door. Think of the devil, one could say.

I was shocked, to say the least. Y/F/N's expression matched mine. She then looks at me apologetically.

I glance at her and shrug in response, sort of saying 'its ok'. She didn't know he'd be here too.

He looks surprised for a brief second as his eyes meet mine, but then he puts on a smile and walks over to our table.

"Hey Y/N, hey Y/F/N."

"Hi Shawn," she replies with a small smile, trying to be polite but her voice lacking it's usual brightness.

"Hi...." I breathe out. He either doesn't hear me, or he ignores me, because he simply nods at Y/F/N and pulls up a chair next to Brian.

They make small talk but all I could hear was my own panic.

Shawn seemed to be over his initial shock from seeing me, and was now smiling, and even laughing a little. His eyes would drift to me every so often, and his smile would then falter.

"Y/N?" I'm snapped out of my thoughts by Brian's voice.

"Hm?" I ask, not having heard the question.

"I asked how uni was going?"

"Oh... it's alright, a little tough. I really like doing co-op though," I reply, and he nods with a smile.

"Bro, do you still do it at the hospital where that cute nurse works?" Shawn asks, making me want to cry.

Bro?

Brian smiles and nods in understanding, apparently knowing who the 'cute nurse' was. Had Shawn talked to him about her? He says something to Brian and they both laugh.

How could he just pretend that nothing had happened between us? How could he act like everything was okay?

Did I ever even mean anything to him? He looked upset at the time, but was it just me?

Four months ago was when we broke up. Four months ago was when Shawn broke my heart. We hadn't seen each other since he walked out the door that night.

He never saw how broken I was. He left before he could even see me cry. It was Y/F/N who had to pick up the pieces and comfort me.

Four months ago....

"He promised me forever," I sobbed into her shoulder.

"I know honey, shhh," she soothed.

"He said he'd never leave me," I said through hiccups and shaky breaths. She strokes my hair gently as we sit on the floor of my room.

I get up abruptly from my seat and walk quickly out the door, unable to take any more of this. I could feel their gazes on me but I don't look back.

I stand out of view from the window, and wipe away the stray tears that had escaped. I decide to stay for a little bit before I go back in, and lean against the wall of the building.

The door opens and someone walks outside. I thought it would've been Y/F/N coming to find me, but instead it was Brian.

"Hey, Y/N... are you okay?"

I shrug, looking down. "I just don't get how he's so okay."

Brian pauses, as if contemplating whether to tell me this.

"He's not."

"What? But he was acting fine— "

"Exactly. It's an act. As his best friend, I can't tell you much... but he's broken, Y/N. He misses you."
