3rd person POV

"Welcome back to another episode of the late late show! I'm your host James Corden, and today we are joined by musical guest, Shawn Mendes!"

The crowd cheers as the cameras expand to reveal Shawn, who was sitting on the sofa across from James.

"First things first, I believe congratulations are in order; you've just released your brand new album and even bigger news, you're expecting your very first child!"

The cheers get even louder as Shawn's already present grin gets wider, thinking of his pregnant wife at home.

"Thank you, yeah it's been a busy year," Shawn replies, chuckling.

"Busy in the bedroom I see," James says, wiggling his eyebrows seductively.

The crowd laughs. Shawn shakes his head, smiling at his joke.

"In all seriousness though, congratulations to both you and Y/N, I'm sure you'll be wonderful parents."

"Thank you so much man. I really can't wait to meet her."

"Have you decided on a name yet? Because I think Jamesette would be an excellent name for a baby girl," James suggests, turning to the crowd and making them laugh.

Shawn laughs as well, thinking of what his wife would say if he asked to name their child 'Jamesette'.

"Yeah we've already decided on a name and we're keeping it a secret until she's here, but I can tell you it certainly isn't that."

James laughs, moving on to the next topic. "Now let's talk about your album."

He pulls out a large vinyl from behind the desk and the audience cheers. "This, Mr. Mendes, is absolutely amazing."

James talks to him about the album, and Shawn smiles widely again when he asks about the songs about Y/N.

————

Y/N was back at their apartment in downtown Toronto, simply relaxing and having some 'girl time' with Aaliyah. She couldn't really go anywhere anyways with her swollen belly and feet.

Sat on the couch, the two ladies were picking out which movie to watch. This was one of the few times that Shawn wasn't here to insist they watch Harry Potter for the millionth time.

"Okay we've got the popcorn... anything else?" Aaliyah asks Y/N who was already plopped down on the sofa.

"How about some juice? There's some in the fridge," the pregnant woman replies, slowly trying to stand up.

"It's okay I got it." Aaliyah turns to head into the kitchen.

"Uhhh Liyah...."

"Yeah what is it?" she asks, turning back around.

"I think my water just broke," Y/N answers, beginning to freak out as warm liquid gushes out in between her legs.

Aaliyah stands there in shock for a few seconds. "YOUR WHAT!? We've got to go to the hospital! Now!"

"Okay okay call Shawn."

She runs to the kitchen to get her phone, and waits impatiently as it rings. She panics when her brother doesn't pick up.

"Goddammit Shawn! Pick up your damn phone your wife is in labour!" she mutters anxiously, trying to call him again.

Once again, he doesn't answer, and after spamming his text messages in all caps, Aaliyah runs back into the living room to find Y/N experiencing her first contraction.

"Shit... this... hurts..." she breathes out, her face contorted with pain.

"Okay uhh Shawn's not picking up just... breathe and we'll get you to a hospital."

The contraction ends and Y/N relaxes, breathing out heavily. "Can you pass me my phone?"

Aaliyah nods, passing it to her.

"I'll try Shawn one more time and then we'll get going to the hospital," she says, ringing her husband's number. "C'mon babe please pick up..." she whispers desperately.

Still, there was no answer.

"Okay let's just go, I'll keep trying in the car."

Grabbing the keys to Y/N's car, they eventually make their way out of the building and into the parking lot.

Another contraction hits, just as they reach the car door. Leaning against the frame, she takes deep breaths, trying to push through the pain.

After a while, she manages to open the door and get inside. Aaliyah starts driving while Y/N continues to repeatedly call Shawn.

"Is he still not picking up??" Aaliyah asks after like the fifth try.

Y/N shakes her head. "His phone is usually silent during interviews or left in the dressing room," she replies as the phone rings one more time.

This time, someone picks up. "Hello?"

"Shawn!" she exclaims.

"No, it's Andrew. Shawn's still on the show, why have you been calling?"

"I've been trying to get a hold of him, my water broke, I'm in labour."

"You're what!?"

"Go get Shawn, please."

"Uhm yeah gimme a sec."

He hangs up the phone as the car turns onto the highway.

James, who was about to ask another question, is interrupted by an assistant running up on stage. He whispers something in Shawn's ear, pointing to the curtain leading backstage.

Shawn hurries over with a puzzled expression on his face, to where his manager Andrew was standing behind the curtain.

After being explained the situation, his eyes widen and he visibly pales. He runs off, leaving both the crowd, and James confused.

James comes to see what was happening and Andrew explains once again why Shawn needed to leave. The late night host gasps, and rushes back on stage to the worried audience.

"Folks I apologize, Shawn had to run off, he's just received some very exciting news; his wife is in labour!"

The screams of the crowd are deafening and seemingly unending as everyone is stood up from their seats and cheering.

Shawn sprints to his car, getting inside. Pulling out his phone which Andrew had handed him, he sees about a hundred texts from his wife and sister.

He immediately rings Y/N, putting it on speaker and starting the car.

"Babe!" Her voice comes out weakly through the phone.

"Y/N I'm so sorry, I was on the show and I didn't see the messages," Shawn rambles.

"It doesn't matter just get here now!"

Y/N, who had already reached the hospital, whimpers as another contraction hits.

Shawn winces, hating to hear her in pain. "Just breathe through it okay? I'll be there soon I love you."

He hangs up, placing his trembling hands back on the steering wheel. Craning his head at the road ahead, he looks anxiously at the traffic in front of him.
