Y/N's POV

I put my earbuds in, raising the volume until it was almost painfully loud. I could still hear them. No matter how hard I tried, it was extremely hard to focus on anything else.

They knew I hated it when they argued. But they were too caught up in their shouting to care. This was the second time this week.

Frustrated, I take my earbuds out and pick up my phone, calling the one other person who dealt with this first hand.

"Connor... Connor, they're arguing again."

He sighs, dejected. "Are you okay? How bad is it?"

"I'm fine... locked myself in my room as usual. I heard something smash downstairs but they're still yelling at each other so they're probably both fine."

"How long have they been at it?"

"It's been almost an hour. Same topic as always and I can hear them loud and clear from my room."

There's no response from his end. All I could hear was the barely muffled arguing of my parents.

"Connor?" I ask after a moment, checking if he was still there.

"Yeah, sorry. Just... feeling guilty. You shouldn't have to constantly be around all that fighting."

"It's not your fault..."

"I know but I'm on tour, far away from it while you're always in the same house as them."

I shrug, even though he couldn't see me.

"I'm gonna fly home tomorrow okay? Hang in there until then. We'll get this sorted out."

"Okay... bye. Love you."

"Love you too, sis."

Connor arrived the next morning. He came to see me and then went to talk to Mom and Dad.

I was once again in my room, where I seemed to be spending a lot of time lately.

They were speaking normally for the most part, except for the few moments that Connor raised his voice and then they did the same.

About a half hour later, someone knocks on my door as I'm seated on my bed scrolling through my phone.

My big brother walks in. "Hey."

"Everything okay?" I ask, setting my phone down.

"Meh. Same old, same old. The good news is, you won't have to be around all this fighting anymore."

I look at him with a puzzled expression. "What do you mean?"

"You're coming on tour with us."

"Really?" My eyes go wide in shock. A wide grin spreads across my face.

He nods. "I talked to Shawn yesterday about our situation, and I've just convinced Mom and Dad to let you come."

I squeal eagerly, wrapping my arms around him and giving him a tight hug.

"It's only until the end of summer but for once they agreed with each other and decided it was unhealthy for you to be around all this fighting."

"Thank you thank you thank you!!"

"So, this is Brian, Andrew, and Shawn. You'll meet the rest of the group tomorrow morning," Connor tells me. We had just arrived at the hotel.

"Hi.... I'm Y/N," I introduce myself awkwardly to the three of them.

"Hey," Brian greets me, nodding his head.

"Welcome on board, I suppose," Andrew says with a friendly smile.

"Right, uh, I'll get you your room key," Connor says to me before walking off to the reception desk.

Andrew nudges Brian, pointing somewhere behind and telling him something. Brian nods. "Excuse us, we need to take care of something."

I nod and they both walk towards the elevators, leaving just Shawn and I.

"Hey," Shawn says, coming closer to me as I turn to face him.

"Hey... thanks for letting me join you on tour," I tell him shyly.

"It's no problem. Connor explained everything and I'm happy to help. I hope you'll like being on tour with us."

I smile gratefully. "The way Connor described it to me, I'm sure I will. And even if I don't, it can't be worse than where I came from." He laughs a little.

Connor then arrives with my card, handing it to me just as Brian's head pops out of the elevator. He motions for Connor to come.

"One sec!" Connor tells him. "Are you gonna be okay with your luggage?" he asks me.

"Yeah, yeah, go," I assure him. He heads off and I turn to Shawn. "Do you need to go too?"

The elevator doors close and they're gone. "I guess not," Shawn replies with a chuckle. "Here let me help you with these."

He reaches for one of my suitcases, lifting it with surprising ease.

"Oh, thanks." I take the other and we head up to my room which was a few doors down the hall from his.

He sets my bag down in my hotel room.

"Ok, I'll uh, see you at breakfast tomorrow. You eat breakfast right?"

I giggle. "Yes, I eat breakfast."

He smiles almost timidly. "Goodnight, Y/N."

"Goodnight, Shawn."

I close the door, smiling to myself and trying to fight the blush that tinted my cheeks. That was normal right?

After all, it was my first time meeting a pop star, even though it was the one my brother worked for. And a charming one at that...

I look around the room, sighing happily. These next two months were gonna be hella fun. Plus, y'know, there's the added bonus of being away from my parents while they work out their shit.

Shawn's POV

I exhale deeply once she closes the door. Way to play it cool, Mendes. "You eat breakfast right?" Pfft, real smooth alright.

I walk across the hall to my room, as my heart goes back to it's normal rhythm. I scold myself when I reach my room. Stop it, Shawn. You can't do this. It's not allowed.

Not only would she be leaving in two months, but she was also only 17 and not to mention the sister of one of my best friends. But she was also pretty. And cute. So fucking cute.

No no no. You're not supposed to think like this, especially not about her. You're not supposed to be thinking about her at all.

She probably has a boyfriend anyways. Does she have a boyfriend? You should ask Connor if she has a boyfriend.
