A/N: pt. 2 of previous imagine

Y/N's POV
I dare myself to look him in the eye, preparing for the worst. He was as white as a sheet, and looked as if he was about to faint.
"He's... what?"
"His name is Caleb, and he's two years old, and I'm so sorry I never told you," I blurt out. I bite my lip nervously, not knowing how he would react.
Me bringing Caleb was also on purpose. I figured he would be less likely to yell if I had a child in my arms.
"A-And he's mine?"
I nod.
"So that's why you—?"
I nod again.
He looked so overwhelmed. Shawn rubs his hands over his face, and then runs his fingers through his hair.
He stares at the boy sitting on my lap. I knew what he was thinking. Caleb looked just like him when he was younger.
"Why didn't you tell me?"
"It seemed like the best choice at the time. I didn't want to break up with you but we had only been dating for like six months and you had your whole career ahead of you."
"Wasn't that at least partly my decision to make though?"
"Shawn, I know you. You wouldn't have walked away if I had told you. This would've flipped your whole world around. You had a tour coming up, festivals and interviews scheduled."
He nods, looking down at his coffee. Caleb started to get fussy in my lap. He was sleeping earlier, but now he was probably bored. I try to move him around but he just whines.
"Could you um, pass me the toy in the bottom of the push-chair there?" I ask Shawn. He nods, then reaches down and pulls a little truck out of the stroller.
He then tries to hand it to me, but Caleb sees it and grabs at it with his tiny fingers. This makes Shawn smile, and he gives the toy to the toddler, who smiles happily in return.
"I really am sorry, Shawn. I wish I had told you, but I was young and naive, and I thought I was doing the right thing. Then after I broke up with you, it seemed like it was too late."
"Well, I'm glad I finally know the reason," he chuckles, which makes me smile. Shawn could always find a way to lighten the mood. "Can I... hold him? If that's alright?"
I nod, passing him over to Shawn, who carefully takes Caleb and places him in his lap. He looked a little nervous, but then started to relax.
He looks down to check if he was comfy and happy, and sees that he was still very focused on his truck. Shawn holds him protectively, and I smile at the sight.
"Look!" Caleb exclaims, showing Shawn his special toy.
"Wow! Is that a truck?" Shawn replies with a grin, acting very amazed.
"Twuck," he says, rolling it on the table in front of him.
"This is the cutest kid in the universe," Shawn tells me, looking up from his son. I giggle, nodding in agreement. What can I say? We made a hella cute kid.
We stay at the cafe for another hour or so, before I had to take Caleb home for his nap.
"Here, let me give you my number," I say as I put Caleb into his push-chair.
"Is it still the same as before?" he asks. I nod in response. "Then I still have it." Of course he does. "Do you need mine?"
"No, I have yours too. I just gotta um.... unblock it," I admit sheepishly. He laughs as he stands and tucks in his chair.
"Okay, well, I should get going... I'll uh, call you later."
"Bye Y/N," he replies with a smile.

Later...
I hear the phone ringing in the living room, so I quickly finish making Caleb's dinner and rush to go grab it.
"Hello?"
"Hey Y/N," said a voice I recognized.
"Hey Shawn!"
"Uhm, I wanted to talk to you about Caleb. I wanna be a part of his life."
This makes me smile. "I want you to be too," I say quietly.
"Obviously we have a lot to talk about still..."
I nod slowly, before realizing he couldn't see me. "Yeah, we do. But for starters, dinner at my place tomorrow?"
"Yeah, I'd love to. Just the three of us?"
"Just the three of us."
