2nd person POV

"Do you have everything?" you ask him.

"Yeah I think so..."

He sets the bag he was holding down by the entrance of your apartment, where the rest of his luggages were.

Your three year-old-daughter quietly stands beside you, holding your hand.

He walks over to you and you let go of her tiny hand to give him a hug. He holds you tight, before pulling apart.

"Daddy I don't want you to go," Skye says in a small voice.

He looks down at her big brown eyes that were beginning to water. Her lip starts to quiver as he kneels down and pulls her in for a hug, stroking the back of her head. A tear drips down her little cheeks when he lets go.

"Oh darling don't cry, I'll be back soon I promise."

She looks down at her feet sadly, and Shawn looked as if his heart was breaking. He uses his thumb to wipe away her tears, then pulls the beanie he was wearing off his head.

"See this Skye? This is my favourite beanie."

He places it over her tiny head and it falls, covering her eyes. Her lips emit an adorable little giggle, making Shawn grin as well. He then lifts it up, so she could see him.

"You keep this safe for me okay? And you can give it back to daddy when I see you again," he tells her.

"Until then, you'll have a little piece of me here at home with you." He places a gentle kiss on her forehead.

"I love you Daddy," she says quietly.

"I love you too darling."

He stands up and she wraps her short arms around his leg, clutching on to it. Shawn ruffles her soft brown hair, and then turns to you. He kisses you sweetly on the lips.

"Bye babe, stay safe."

"Bye sweetheart. I love you and I'll call you both tonight."

You nod, and Skylar lets go of her father's leg, knowing it was time for him to go.

After he left, she refused to take off that beanie for an entire week. You finally managed to convince her, and she placed it very carefully on her night dresser.

She would check on it every so often to make sure it was safe, and right where she left it. She would look at it before going to bed, and the first thing she would do when she wakes up was making sure that it's still there.

When the two of you go to pick him up from the airport a few months later, she brings it to him.

"Here daddy I kept it safe for you," she told him proudly.

After that, every time he leaves for tour, he gives her that same beanie. And every time when he came home, she would give it right back to him.

15 years later...

Shawn's hand is placed on your waist, and the two of you are standing in the driveway, thinking the exact same thing. She was growing up too fast. Your little girl was leaving for college.

After a moment, she comes up to where you two were standing, offering a small smile. All her stuff was loaded into her car, and all that was left was to say goodbye.

You go first, pulling her into a tight hug. You whisper 'I love you, have fun and stay safe' into her ear, and she whispers 'I will, I love you' right back.

She pulls away first, and you gently caress her cheek one last time.

Next was Shawn. He looked emotional, forcing a smile as he said goodbye to his little girl. He kisses her forehead, hugging her for a long time.

"Bye daddy, I'll miss you."

"I'll miss you too darling."

They let go, and he pulls something out of his pocket.

"Do you remember this?" he asks her.

She nods, smiling. He hands her the beanie, and she looks at the fabric in her hands.

"I love you," she tells him.

"I love you too."

She kept that beanie safe during her college years, and would wear it whenever she felt homesick. It felt like it really was a piece of him, after all those times he had given it to her while he was away.

It was a small thing, but to both of them it meant, 'I'll see you soon, but until then I'm still with you always'.
