Kyrin

I watched as the car pulled up in the driveway, my smile edged on my face in excitement because I had to ignore the other sinking feeling I had. The car stopped and the passenger side door opened soon afterwards. I opened my arms as Eissa came running to me.

We hugged as he spoke. "Hey ma!"

"Hey Bubba." We released and I ran my fingers through his hair. "Have you gotten a bit taller on me? Your curls are growing out. I see you."

He chuckled. "You look nice too."

"Well thank you. I do try."

"Where's the twins?"

"In their cribs or in the living room playing with Landon."

"Well.. this was nice. Bye Dad! Love you! Gotta go." He grabbed his suitcases that Wissam had pulled out of the trunk before taking off towards the front door.

I went to follow before Wissam stopped me. "Oh Kyrin, here." Turning back around, I saw he was holding a backpack. Grabbing it from him, he informed me. "It's his school backpack. He always forgets it."

"Thanks."

"No problem. Is Janet here?"

Nodding, I mumbled. "Yeah. She is. She's making sure everything's straight inside."

"Oh okay, well can you tell her I said thanks again. I got to spend time with my son and my daughters as a whole family for once. She kept her word and it changed my life for the better."

Her word.

This was the second time I'd heard him say that in reference to my wife. "Yeah... you keep saying that. What word did she keep?"

"Oh, when everything was happening a few years back, she told me if Eissa ever wanted to know me or come stay with me that she'd allow it. She told me she wouldn't keep my son away from me and she didn't. Even under the circumstances, she still let him stay. I never could have imagined having such an intelligent human being as my child. He's everything I wanted to be. You two are honestly great for him." Wissam closed the trunk before leaning on the car. "He wouldn't stop talking about you and Janet. Oh and um Aunt Phoebe and his little brother and sister that look alike."

I chuckled. "Well I'm sure he'll be talking about the differences between us really soon."

"Oh I'm sure of it. It's Eissa we're talking about here." He laughed along with me before standing up straight. "Well I have to run but if you guys need anything or if Eissa wants to come over to visit just call or text."

"Thank you for taking care of him."

Wissam sent me a genuine smile. "I'm his father. I should have been doing that. Oh, and my condolences. I saw on Instagram that your mother passed. I'm praying for you and the family."
