Sarah

When I opened my eyes, my mother was standing over me. I jumped harshly before speaking. "Mommy, why're you standing over me?"

She waved me off. "I'm sorry baby, I was looking at your blood pressure on the screen."

I smiled at her. "Hey momma."

"Hello my beautiful daughter." She laid her palm against my cheek. "How're you feeling?"

"I feel okay. I'm awake, so that's all that matters."

"God's blessed you again. I didn't believe my ears when Langston told me you'd finally waken up. The doctors had given up but that man made them have faith and I'm so grateful that he did."

"What do you mean?"

My mother pulled back as she sat in the chair next to my bed. "The doctors told us that you were on your way to being brain dead. You'd gotten hit in the head with something—."

Suddenly, I felt pain in my head that caused me to stop listening as my mind played a scene I wasn't too familiar with. I went into over drive trying to place the memory at a certain place but couldn't. I shook my head slightly as I cut my mother off. "I'm sorry mommy, start over. My mind is some where else right now."

She shot me a worried glance before starting over. "Of course. The doctors told us that you were on your way to being brain dead. Whoever did this to you had gotten you in the head with something hard which caused you to crack something... or bleed... child it was so much I honestly can't quite remember. Still, they got you into surgery and when they got you out of surgery you slipped into a coma. The doctor didn't think it was you trying to heal your own body but instead you dying. Told us it might be time to plan a funeral and unplug you. Langston told them that as long as you were breathing, he wasn't letting anything be unplugged. The doctors tried to tell him it's how medicine worked and he replied that they didn't know how God worked. Six long months and you're awake. God touched you honey."

I felt my heart beat skip at hearing what Langston did for me. That man... that man was my everything. Replying, I looked at the television. "He did. God touched me and blessed me when He let Langston come back into my life."

"It was my first time seeing that man since back when you all were in grade school. After graduation, you kind of just drifted off from everyone. Especially after Kyrin left. So to not only see him again but to witness the love that he conveys unapologetically towards you... it's beautiful. Honestly and truly beautiful."

"Thank you mama."

She placed her hands on mines. "Honestly dear, that man is your soulmate. He sits at this hospital everyday and if he can't come, he'd send Kyrin or Nasir. The man rarely left your side and I have reason to believe that a wedding should come soon."
