3 Months Later

Kyrin

I sat at my computer looking through shots when I heard Janet calling me. "Ky!"

"In my office!" I yelled back as I rustled through the pictures but wasn't that impressed with any. My lip slightly turned up at them as I got a bit frustrated. I knew my editors would probably love them but I wasn't in love with them. None of them.

My wife turned the corner and held something in her hands. "Hey."

I broke my eyes away from the screen and looked at her with a smile. "Hi love. I thought you said you were going with Landon and the babies to the park?"

"We did go. Hey, has Ember reached out to you or is it still.. well ya know?"

"Bad." I mumbled shortly. "She feels how she feels and she's angry. Raging. Hurtful. I'm worried but I'm not sure of what I could do. She didn't show up to our mothers funeral. Wasn't there when we put our mother in the ground. She's hurt... but I just wish I knew how to fix it."

She nodded. "I know."

"Am I wrong for not doing more? I mean seriously J, just tell me because maybe I've been slacking on my sister role."

"You can't force her to heal if she isn't ready... you aren't the sister slacking. Not at all."

I finally noticed how unsettled my wife looked as she spoke. My face furrowed. "What's wrong? Why're you saying that like that?"

Janet looked at me as if I was about to snap at her. "Don't leave this house after you know this."

Her condition made me sit up some and turn in the chair to face her completely. "After I know what?"

"Tell me that you won't leave this house."

"Janet Jackson-Broussard. What is going on?"

She sighed before placing a book down in front of me. I slid it closer and read the title. "The Gives and Takes... by Ember Nicole Sims?"

My wife sat on my desk. "It got here yesterday."

"Yesterday? Why didn't you tell me? She published a book and didn't tell us? She's that upset with us that she wouldn't let us celebrate with her? This is great! How could she not—."

"Kyrin... I skimmed it last night and I honestly think that you should read it. Now."

Her tone told me this wasn't good and I paused. "What's the book about?" She didn't reply quickly and it caused me to ask. "How bad is it?"
