Dear Charlie,
What happen yesterday, I will never ever forget. There was a New Years party at the old man’s lake, there was music, food, and artisans. On the day I saw Sam with Gerardo in front of the stage. There wasn’t any band playing just music. Laura and I were supposed to meet, she said at 12 but it was already 3 and I was getting worried. But then I saw she text me “Happy New Years, I love you so much, I’m so sorry I can’t meet up with you today, you’re the best friend anyone could ever ask for. I’m sorry and I really hope from the bottom of my heart that this year would be good to you.” When I saw this I started to cry, I didn’t know why, I felt the emptiness of my chest she left getting even deeper. So I went at the back area of the stage so no one could see me. I just cried, silently, and i hated her, for a minute I hated her so much. I text back “Why do you keep appearing and disappearing? Don’t you know how much its killing me?” but she didn’t replied. I stopped crying by then but I was still sad and mad. Kevin found me, he told me if I was ok, so I smiled and told him “Don’t worry, everything is good.” Kevin is a good friend of Anabel, he’s tall and have curly hair and dark skin. He can be really annoying but people still likes him. We saw a couple of local bands playing it was good because it let the name of Laura out of my mind, and through all that evening, I didn’t think of her.
Later that night everyone were sitting on the ground since its all grass with a blanket and some food. The Jukebox were playing, they’re a tribute band to The Beatles, and then it reminded me of how much Anabel loves them, and how much we actually have in common when it comes to music. There was a firework show at 11:30 since all the midnight thing was a bit old to some people. It was 11:00 when Anabel showed up, alone, without Jonah, and I felt happy, my heart was beating fast and my hands were sweaty. I think she saw Sam and Gerardo first because she went directly to me and Kevin. She sat right between us and said “Hi” the same word she used when we first met in 6th grade. Kevin said hi too and hugged her, then she turned to me and stood there, making eye contact with me. My God her eyes, there wasn’t anything more beautiful than her eyes. She then said “Are you ok?” and I responded her “Oh yeah sorry, I wasn’t paying attention.” She laughed, and then started to talk about the band that was about to play, and how she hoped she would sing “yeah yeah yeah.” The band started to sing and they were there until 11:25. They stopped for a moment to say thanks to everyone for coming and share a night with them, and that the next song was going to be for a special random couple they will light with one of the stage lights. Eventually the first firework exploded it was so beautiful. The Jukebox started to play “Something” which is an amazing song written by George Harrison. I looked at her, she was smiling and gazing at the fireworks, then the white light got us. I opened my eyes and she looked a bit surprised, because of the rush and the people yelling. We didn’t know what to do, so I took a step closer to her, she did the same, she laughed and took her head down for a moment then she looked at me in my eyes. Time was very slow, I couldn’t hear anything but my heart beating fast. We stood there, so close, face to face, and I still couldn’t stop staring at her eyes, her beautiful eyes. She slowly, and very shy, took her hand to my cheek and stroke it, there, time had stopped, and I felt “infinite” again.
We kissed.
Love,
Joctan
