Chapter 2 Big sister Raphtalia

A/n: I'm going to shorten slave merchant down to SM

Naofumi's POV

I was looking at the cages with the SM standing next to me. "Come with me, good sir." SM said. I followed the SM towards a cage that had what looked like a werewolf in it. "This one is the best fighter I could offer for 15 gold pieces. He's level 75." SM said. I looked at it amazed by the level of it. "So what are you looking for in a slave?" SM asked.

"One that's cheap and obedient will work." I said.

"So a demi-human, they aren't very well suited for any type of battle or labor." SM said.

"That won't matter if we need them in battle, we'll train them." I said.

"That's amusing considering that you don't believe in people." SM said.

"Sure, but slaves aren't people training one is like upgrading my shield." I said. The SM chuckled. "You got me there." SM said. We stopped at the cages I first saw. "These are the cheapest slaves I can offer you, apart from the dead ones, of course." SM said. I looked into one cage and saw a girl with what looked like racoon ears and tail. "Raise your head." I said, interrupting the SM. The racoon girl coughed before raising her head. "That half racoon girl is as sick as a dog and a couple of spooks short of a cartwheel. She isn't long for this world. I'd suggest something else." SM said. I made up my mind about getting her. "I'll take her." I said. I heard the SM gasp in shock about me picking her. He unlocked the cage and dragged her out. We walked over to another smaller tent on the inside where the SM handed me a knife. "Just need a bit of your blood good sir." SM said. I pricked my finger before letting the blood drip into the dish the SM was holding. He dipped a brush in it and purple lightning came from the symbol on the girl's chest. She groaned in pain from whatever was happening. "What is that?" I asked.

"That slave crest is what keeps her from betraying you or disobeying you." SM said.

"What about my younger companion?" I asked.

"Were you wanting a crest for her as well?" SM asked.

"What! No, I was just wondering if she'd respond to her commands as well." I said shocked.

"No, however you can train her that way if you'd like." SM said. I nodded dropping a bag of silver coins onto the SM's table, before walking over and looked down at her. "I guess I should know what your name is." I said. The girl started coughing before looking away from me. "Raphtalia." She said. I nodded grabbing her arm. I felt a hit on my shoulder, I looked down to see Y/n staring at me. I nodded. I pulled her out of the tent once we were out of the SM's tent we headed to an inn paying to spend the night. "I'm sorry, but I have to come off as rude towards most people. I'll do my best to keep you healthy." I said, laying Y/n down on the bed. Raphtalia looked at me like she didn't believe me. "Who is she?" Raphtalia asked looking at Y/n. "She's the cursed hero." I said. She looked at me shocked and happy. "Really?" She asked. I nodded. She ran over to the bed and started to looking at her. "Hey, calm down. She's had a rough time adapting to this world." I said. She nodded letting out a yawn. "Go ahead lay down and get some rest you'll need some before tomorrow." I said. Raphtalia nodded and laid down next to Y/n. Raphtalia brought Y/n into a hug which seemed to calm Y/n, who hugged back. I stayed awake most of the night happy that Y/n was finally sleeping peacefully again. Before I headed to bed I made sure to block the door to keep any would be robbers out.

Y/n's POV

I woke up feeling someone's arms around me in a hug, I opened my eyes to see someone I didn't know hugging me. I panicked and fell out of bed. After falling I heard something come over to where I was. "Y/n, you okay?" Naofumi asked. I nodded, before looking at the bed. "That's Raphtalia, she's a slave I bought yesterday." He said. I nodded. "I'm guessing you don't remember much from last night." He said.
