Chapter 13 Framed

Y/n's POV

The sound of metal clashing with metal rang in my ears as I fell backwards after pulling Melty towards me to save her. "What the hell are you doing?" Big brother asked, pushing the knight back. The knight stumbled back a few steps before recovering and looking at big brother. "Curse you! How dare you take the royal princess Melty hostage!" The knight shouted. I looked at the knight from the ground before looking towards the other knights one of whom was holding a crystal ball. "I'm not taking anyone hostage." Big brother countered. 

"You're a liar! Fellow knights! Justice is ours! Let's destroy this Devil of the Shield and the Cursed Hero!" The knight called, aiming his sword towards us. The other knights came charging towards us as Melty looked at me. "Sorry princess, but you're going to have to move." I said, pushing to my side so I could get up. "Terrific, so now I've become a devil, huh? Raphtalia! Filo!" Big brother said, getting big sis and Filo to help out. I prepared to fight as big brother stepped further back so he was directly in front of me. "Keep her safe if I can't." Big brother whispered. 

"Don't worry about it." I said. He nodded as big sis started taking on the knights with Filo. Big sis easily knocked two of the knights away from her, focusing on not killing them. Filo jumped into the air before transforming and landing on the knights she was charging at. The rest of the knights that got past big brother was dealing with while I stayed back with Melty to protect her. I watched as each of the knights fell to the ground. They pretended to die or act mortally wounded. Two knights stood back, one of them still holding the crystal ball while smirking. "Full retreat!" The knight's leader shouted. The knights who were on the ground stood up before rushing away from us with the others. "Can we chase them down?" Filo asked. 

"Nah." Big brother answered. I could tell he was upset before I felt something hit my back. "Mel? Are you hurt anywhere?" Big sis asked, coming over to me and Melty. After the encounter with the knights news was quickly spreading about us kidnapping Melty and soon even the border town got harder and harder to move around in. Big sis and I would go into town with me disguising myself to look human so we could find supplies and information. The borders were locked down tight and we couldn't find a way to easily leave the country like we were planning. "Mel... um..." Filo started. I heard rustling from the leaves nearby as I looked over to see big brother coming out of the bushes. "Master Naofumi." Big sis said, looking at big brother.

"How did it go?" Big brother asked. 

"The recording has made it's way to all towns and villages close to here." I said, crossing my arms. I was annoyed that somehow in this world they could edit recordings. "Entering them would be too risky." Big sis added.

"I see." Big brother said, before holding out his hand with something in it. I looked at it seeing that it was the rosary for the Three Heroes Church. "Wait isn't that?" Big sis started. I remembered when we got that from the soldier who helped try to kill Melty, but could get away before we got to him. The soldier threatened that big brother and I would pay a price for disturbing what they considered was the natural order. "What was he talking about?" Big sis asked.

"You got me, Raphtalia. One of the king's hairbrained ideas. Thanks to the stupidity of her father, we're stuck here with nowhere to go." Big brother said loudly. I sighed, knowing that he was just trying to get a rise out of Melty. "My father can't be behind this!" Melty shouted.

"Oh yeah? Who else could've ordered something like that?" Big brother asked.

"I hate to admit it, but I want to bet it was Myne. She's the only one who'd go for a kill like that. She tried it with me." I said, looking away from everyone. It was silent for a moment before Melty spoke up again. "I would have to agree with lady Y/n in that regard." Melty admitted. Big brother walked over to the fire that was keeping the area around us lit and warm. "So, she's trying to kill you and take your place as crown princess. Is that what you're saying?" Big brother asked. Melty nodded and hummed a response to his question. "I know those knights who attacked are under the king's direct control. It'd be natural to assume he's in the middle of everything. If I'm right, those guys there's nothing they'd love more than to frame the mythical Devil of the Shield and Cursed Hero for this whole thing." Big brother explained.
