It was now Friday, the rest of the week had gone by rather quickly, they had their Christmas assembly today to release them from school for their holidays. "Dad? Are you home?" Liberty asked dropping her things on the kitchen table. "I'm in the attic." He hollered from upstairs. Liberty ran upstairs to see what her dad was doing. "Can you help me by bringing the Christmas lights downstairs into the living room." Her dad said as he carried the Christmas tree downstairs. "Sure!" She smiled grabbing the heavy box of lights.
"Dallas is coming over today!" Liberty informed her father as they decorated the tree with colorful lights and ornaments. "Really, well that's great. I hope he doesn't get stuck in the storm." He responded plugging in the lights. "What storm?" Liberty asked falling back onto the couch. "We are suppose to get a really bad snow storm tonight." Her dad said turning on the news. "We urge you to stay home tonight, and don't be out if you don't have to." The news broadcaster said.
Dallas was tapping his finger on his old kitchen table watching the snow fall from the sky pile up. He checked his clock as his phone started to ring. "Hello?" Dallas said into the phone. "Dallas?" A lady spoke through the phone. "Yes, Mrs. Adams?" He said. Mrs. Adams is a nice lady who sometimes takes care of his grandpa when Dallas isn't home. "I'm sorry Dallas but my nephews are here and their mom hasn't arrived to pick them up yet; she is trapped in the snow storm and I can't just leave them here alone." she said apologetically. I understand Mrs. Adam. Have a nice night!" Dallas said. "Thanks for understanding. " She said before hanging up. Dallas was a upset but dialed Liberty's number. "Hey, I'm sorry but I won't be able to make it." Dallas spoke softly. "It's okay. Is everything alright?" Liberty asked. "Oh yeah just the weather you know how it is." Dallas said walking around the tiny kitchen as he spoke. "Yeah, I understand. Don't worry about it. How about tomorrow night?" Liberty asked "Gah, I wish I could but I can't." Dallas spoke. "Oh, okay." Liberty said in a sad tone. "Bye Dallas. " "Bye Libby." He said before hanging up. "Well I guess it's just you and me grandpa." Dallas said sitting on the sofa. "C'mon I'll tuck you into bed, you have to get your rest because you have to go to the doctor's office tomorrow." Dallas smiled at his grandpa who was rocking himself in his favorite chair.
"He can't come." Liberty told her dad with a sad look on her face. "The weather is pretty bad. Her dad sipped on his coffee "I told you." He said. "Can he come over tomorrow?" He asked. "No." She said looking at the floor. "Do you know why?" He asked. "No I don't." She said with a lump in the back of her throat. "I'm going to go paint okay." She said walking off. She locked herself in her tiny art studio and painted the night away.
