~Adam's POV~

After we ate dinner (steak and mashed potatoes; Alesa's favorites), the whole family went out in the backyard to sit by the lake. We spread out a blanket, and propped Heather and Tyler up so they were sitting up. Tyler flopped over, and was challenging himself to sit back up without help. He eventually gave up, and just laid there, staring up at the sky.

The sun was starting to set earlier, and it was already dipped low in the sky. It wasn't a big difference in comparison to a few weeks ago during summer, but it was still noticeable that the sun was almost disappearing.

Nobody really said much; we all just sat there in the grass and watched the sun's reflection bounce off the water. I enjoyed the feeling of togetherness, even if there was no conversation happening.

I loved living by the lake; it emitted a calm feeling. If you had a bad day, you could just go hang out by the lake and instantly feel better. There was just something about the small ripples in the water that gave off a positive energy.

Hannah decided only after a few minutes that she was going inside, though. She claimed her teachers were already handing out tons of homework, and she still had some leftover from before dinner. We let her go; she didn't seem too eager to be outside at the moment.

I think it was the water; even if it wasn't an ocean, it must've still scared her to think about what power the water could have. I had a differing opinion; I wasn't scared, but that's just me.

I daydreamed a lot while sitting there; I thought about how close the holiday season was. It was slowly approaching, but soon enough, Halloween would be here. Then Thanksgiving would come, and it would only be a month until Christmas. I think that fall and winter may be my favorite parts of the year, because they come together to form one big fun holiday season.

Then again, I didn't think Halloween would be a busy occasion for us at home. Not many kids lived in the neighborhood except for our own and Nicole, so trick-or-treaters wouldn't be a major concern. Then again, if they were really desperate for candy, maybe kids would come from other neighborhoods. Who knew.

Seeing as Tyler and Heather will only be two months old by the time Halloween rolls around, I think Alesa and I could agree that they wouldn't be going out. They were too little to go out and about late at night, anyways. Besides, we could always just dress them up at home. They wouldn't be able to eat candy if people gave it to them, anyways.

The next day, I took a walk in the park down the road. It might've been lonely since Alesa was at home with the twins, but I could deal with it.

I was walking along a beaten dirt path when I heard a dog bark. I looked around, and found just what I was looking for; a dog was standing by the bridge I had just crossed over. It was black with little tan tufts of fur here and there, and had a long snout. Its ears were fuzzy and flopped when it trotted along.

I looked around some more, trying to see if there was anyone looking for their dog, but I was the only one around.

"C'mere, boy!" I exclaimed, patting my leg to get the dog's attention. Its ears perked up, and it ran towards me. As it approached, I noticed it didn't have a collar.

"Where's your collar?" I wondered. What would a stray be doing in a park? I mean, probably looking for someone to take it home, but I couldn't be sure.

I decided I would keep the dog and put up "Found Dog" posters. I'd have to talk to Alesa about it, but if nobody claimed the dog, I'm sure that we'd be keeping him. Or her. We'd probably need to go to the vet for that one.
