It's A Plan

~Nicole's POV~

"So... How we escape from this place. Okay. The kitchen to the side of the orphanage is right by the back door. When we're called down for dinner tonight, we'll go to the kitchen to 'get a glass of water,' where we'll sneak out the back door, and pick up our luggage, which we'll have already hid in the hollow maple tree. We then make our way through the forest, where the trees will hide us from anyone in the orphanage seeing us. Then we can go wherever we feel the need to," I told Hannah.

"You sure this'll work?" she questioned.

"Hey. It's a plan, none the less," I defended myself. She shrugged.

"Okay, I'm in."

{that night...}

"Dinner!" the mistress yelled.

Nicole and I looked at each other, grins spreading across our faces.

"Let's go," Nicole exclaimed, rubbing her hands together.

We ran down the stairs, into the dining room, ready to initiate our plan.

"Excuse me, mistress? Can we go get the glasses of water for everyone?" I asked the mistress hopefully.

She nodded.

"Just don't take too long, dears," she waved her hand carelessly at us. We smiled, and quickly made our way to the kitchen.

We saw the glasses of water strewn across the counters, but simply ignored them as we slid through the door that led to the hollow tree where our luggage was waiting.

"Onto yet another new life," I smiled broadly as I quietly shut the wooden door behind me.

"Let's go," Nicole urged, handing me my beat-up suitcase that had my few possessions in it. That is, the possessions I managed to bring back to the orphanage. My phone, a sweatshirt, and a few clothing pieces, the book Under the Dome, and a Polaroid picture of my first day at the Team-Crafted house.

I took my case, and we half walked, half ran into the woods, as Nicole's plan stated.

~Mitch's POV~

"Do you think this will really work?" I questioned Jerome. We might've had an idea how to get Hannah back, but who knows whether it'd work or not.

"It has to. There shouldn't be anything to keep it from failing," Jerome reminded me.

"We can only hope," Rene replied, with a deep sigh.

~Jerome's POV~

{the next day}

"Okay, here goes nothing," I laughed weakly as we pulled into the driveway of the orphanage.

"Yup," Mitch replied simply.

"Are you staying in here?" I asked. He nodded.

"I went in before to turn in Hannah's forms when Adam was busy. They'd recognize me if I went in," he shrugged.

"True, true," I responded, nodding my head. "Well, be right back."

I went to the door of the orphanage, and rapped on the knocker. A lady who must've been in her mid 30's came to the door with tear-stained cheeks.

"How may I help you?" she whimpered.

"Um... I've come to adopt. M'am, are you alright?" I acknowledged her puffy red eyes. She looked directly at me.

"With all due respect, sir, that's none of your concern," she said, smiling weakly. "Come to adopt? Here, the children are in here."

She led me to a room where about 25 kids were playing board games and talking amongst each other, until the mistress- I assumed that's who I was with- clapped her hands.

"This kind gentleman has come to adopt. Line up, please!" she ordered. All the kids got in a line facing me. I turned to the mistress, and tapped her shoulder. She looked back over at me.

"Yes?"

I shook my head. "You see, I already know who I want," I told her.

She gasped. "Oh, my bad! Children, you're free to go," she told them, and they all got back to whatever they had been doing prior to when I came.

The mistress led me to another room, which appeared to be her office, and pulled up a seat for me by her desk.

"So, who's the lucky little kid you'd like to adopt today?" she smiled kindly.

"Hannah Dahlberg, previously Hannah... um... oh gosh... Let's just say her name was Hannah Dahlberg when she came to the orphanage the second time," I laughed, but then my eyes got wide, and I mentally facepalmed.

How would any innocent wanna-be dad know all that?

The mistress's eyes filled with sorrow.

"I'm sorry, but the only Hannah at the orphanage disappeared last night. We have police searching for her and her friend, Nicole," she announced. "I'm so sorry, but we'll find her soon enough."

My heart sunk in my chest. Disappeared? It's just one thing after another, isn't it?

"Are you interested in-"

"I'll be going now. Thanks for everything," I sighed, getting up to go to the door.

~~~
"How'd it go?" Mitch asked excitedly when I climbed into the car.
"Hannah's... Missing," I stammered, sitting down at the wheel.
"W-wha?"
"She's gone, Mitch," I sighed, tears forming in my eyes.
"No..."
(Author's Note: Okay, so if you didn't understand the plan, Mitch realized that Adam had lost custody, not the whole team, so Jerome agreed to adopt her, but Hannah was trying to escape to get back home anyways, so when Jerome went to adopt her, she was gone.
