~Winta's POV~
"Achoo! Achoo, achoo, achooo!" I sneezed every time I stepped down a level on the stairs. I had woken up with a fuzzy feeling in my head, a runny nose, and sore throat. Not to mention, I couldn't stop sneezing!
"Yes. Thank you!" Adam was on the phone when I walked into the kitchen.
"Who was tha- achoo!" I exclaimed, jumping a bit with the force of my sneeze.
"Bless you," Adam started. "It was Mojang, calling about a convention they're doing in Japan. They wanted me to come!"
"Japan? That's all the- achoo!- way across the- achoo!- world!" Right now, it felt impossible to finish a sentence without sneezing.
"Bless you, bless you," Adam continued. "I know, but it's a big deal, and they even offered to fly the whole family. And reserve a hotel room for us a block from the convention center. Oh, and it's near the beach!"
"The beach? Achoo- Isn't Japan, like, tsunami-prone?" I argued. "I don't feel comfortable going."
"Unfortunately, you sound pretty sick. Are you sure you'd even feel up to going, anyways? We'd leave August twelfth," Adam explained.
"I guess not. But I don't want to keep you from going," I frowned.
"It's okay. I'm sure you'd be fine home alone, especially with Tyler and the others right next-door," Adam assured me.
"That's - achoo- true," I agreed.
"I don't even know if Hannah and Alesa would want to go. I might be going by myself," Adam admitted.
"Hannah would probably say o-achoo-kay," I guessed.
"I'll ask later. I don't want to spoil her birthday with a convention," Adam shrugged.
~~~
"Hap-achoo-py birthday!" I tried to shout as Hannah came down the front steps.
"Thanks?" Hannah laughed. "Are you feeling okay?"
"I- ahem- think so," I sighed. Being sick out of nowhere was no fun. Or being sick, period. "How are you? Being as- sniffle- old as you are now."
"Wait a second," Hannah raised an eyebrow. "You're older than me."
"By a few months," I corrected. "Besides, I'm still younger than Kyle."
"How do you know how old he is?" Hannah questioned.
"Doesn't everyb- achoo- ody?" I retorted.
"I don't know," Hannah admitted.
"Enough with the arguing!" Adam butted in.
"We weren't-"
"I have some news, Hannah. I was going to wait until later, but..." Adam cleared his throat, and began to tell Hannah about the convention.
"So, what'll it be? Will you come with me?"
She said yes.
~~~
Adam bought me a chicken noodle soup at the grocery store (they had a food court by the entrance), and although I complained about it being too hot to eat during summertime, I ate it anyways. And I have to admit, it was pretty delicious.
I also managed to watch a whole season of Dance Moms on the basement's TV, even though Adam wanted to play on the Xbox. I just laughed and told him I was a needy sick person desperate for teen's entertainment, so he left.
Hannah came to watch the first episode of season five with me, but her phone rang, so she left the room and didn't come back. I didn't complain. It was more fun to watch when Hannah wasn't saying, "Why does that girl have white dots all over her face? Is that supposed to make her look pretty?" and "Why does she like that girl more? Isn't that kinda racist?"
I just said, "Sure, Hannah," in response.
I shut off the TV after the award ceremony. I had seen plenty of them for one day, anyways.
After the basement was nice an quiet, I laid down with my head on the arm of the couch. I stared up at the blank, white ceiling tiles, and drifted off. I had a long few weeks of being sick ahead of me.
~~~
I woke up sniffling and coughing. It felt as if at least a few hours had passed, but the clock read 3:24. I had fallen asleep around 2:30.
I debated with myself about going back to sleep or going to find something to occupy myself, so I ended up choosing a third option; daydreaming while I lay on the couch with my eyes wide open staring at the ceiling again.
"Okay, Winta, what's the meaning of life?" I asked myself, as I adjusted to get comfortable. Okay, I might've sounded crazy, but I was sick, so I deserved to have some slack cut for me.
I daydreamed about how much fun Hannah and Adam would have in Japan together, lounging at some foreign beach one day, and meeting other YouTubers and fans the next.
But I also wasn't keen on the idea of them being so close to Japanese waters. Hadn't Japan just had, like, one of the world's worst tsunamis a few years ago? Or was that some African country? Or was I just overreacting? Or both?
I should just mind my own business, and think about sick-people things. Hannah and Adam were smart. They'd be careful, if anything were to happen, anyways.
