"You better have a good explanation as to why you both have completely ignored any sort of contact from me!" I shouted as the both looked taken back from my outburst. Chase crossed the room quickly reaching out to embrace me. I stepped back, "No, I don't want a hug right now. I want answers." It was too late though. He wrapped his arms around me tightly keeping me to his chest as I tried to wiggle out of his grasp.
"Tell me what the hell is going on right now," I said angrily when he finally let me go. I turned to Rudy for answers but he gave me the exact same response and embraced me in hug.
"It's finally over," Rudy told me as held me tightly.
I stopped pushing him away, "What do you mean?"
He took a step back before looking over at Chase who was now leaning against the counter, "I told him."
"You what?" I asked putting my hands up to my forehead but Rudy grabbed them quickly.
"I had to," he said in defense, "Come sit down and we'll explain everything."
I was hesitant at first but let him guide me over to chair at the counter. Why did Chase have to get dragged into this? I didn't need him knowing all my issues with my ex. I avoided eye contact with him as I sat down beside him.
"You guys were gone for two days without any notice," I said softly.
"I know and we're sorry. I'm sorry also that I told Chase even though I said I wouldn't," Rudy said standing across from me.
"What happened?" I asked.
"Everything was fine and I was going to do exactly as you said and how we planned to contact your ex. But when you left your phone here, he continued to text and it was some awful shit Ro," he answered, "Like real bad and I couldn't take it."
I felt Chase's eyes on me and I stared at the edge of the counter and distracted myself by rubbing my thumb against the corner.
"Rose, why didn't you tell me what was going on?" Chase asked and I shrugged.
"I didn't want to bring you into all of this. Like it just all seemed so embarrassing," I said keeping my eyes on the counter, "Are you mad?"
"Of course I'm not. If you didn't want to tell me that's alright. I just wish I would have known what you were going through. I just wanted to help," he said softly while placing his hand on mine, "You shouldn't have gone through that alone for so long."
"I know, but I had told Rudy," I shrugged, "Don't blame him that he didn't tell you either. I told him not to."
"I'm not. But I'm glad he did, cause those messages you were receiving were fucked up. And I hope I can help you come to realize that none of the shit that fucker says is true," Chase said sternly.
"Jesus," I gasped at the amount of swearing that was coming from his mouth. I hadn't seen Chase like this before.
"Anyways, back to the story," Rudy interrupted, "I tried to ignore it at first, but the texts kept coming in. It was awful. I was going to respond, but I knew anything I would say wouldn't matter, that this guy was too far gone and it was now an obsession," he explained, "I got so angry and no one should talk to you like that, Ro. Especially when I'm involved."
"Okay, don't go professing your love to her or something," Chase cut him off, "He told me everything. Rudy showed me all the texts and all the hurtful stuff that he was sending..."
"I've never seen this guy more mad," Rudy laughed grabbing a bag of chips to eat, "You should have seen it. He was swearing and throwing shit around."
