"You ready?" Dad asked peeking into my room.
I had just finished getting dressed for our brunch. It was opening night for the show. We had the morning off and so my parents wanted to celebrate by going out to eat.
"Yeah, coming," I smiled grabbing my purse and following him out the door. My mom waited for us downstairs and we all went out to their car to drive to our favorite brunch restaurant.
"This is so exciting," Mom said ask we sat down at out table.
I nodded solemnly, "Yeah, it is."
"Everything okay?" She asked.
"Yeah, just nervous," I smiled.
"Well you have nothing to worry about. This is minor to what you've previously done," she grinned and I nodded.
They changed the subject to something about work and we went on with our brunch . We order mimosas and I had an omelet. We chatted for awhile and I informed my parents of the show and what they needed to do when arriving tonight.
"So, since it's such a special occasion, we got you something for opening night," my mom said reaching into her purse and pulling out a card.
"You guys didn't have to," I started.
"Oh hush, we wanted to celebrate," she cut me off.
"It's a big night for you," my dad chimed in.
I took the card from her and opened it up. There was a folded up piece of paper along with a written note on the card.
We are so proud in you sweetie! You continue you to chase your dreams and we love getting to see everything that you accomplish. We know all this work has been long hours the past few months and wanted to gift you with something in hopes you can relax a bit.
Love,
Mom and DadI opened the piece of paper and read it over. It was a receipt to a hotel, "Wait, what is this?" I asked.
"We found a hotel that was nearby the theater. We thought for your opening weekend that you'd need a lot of sleep and thought it would be easier to be nearby then having to commute all the way home," my mom explained.
"Oh my gosh, that it amazing," I smiled and reached across the table to them both, "Thank you so much."
"We know you've been working so hard for this and have been commuting most of your days and we just want you to be able to focus on this weekend and do your absolute best," my dad nodded.
"Commuting has been difficult," I nodded, "This is great, thank you so much."
Once we finished brunch we headed back home and I grabbed my stuff to leave for work. My mom drove me to the ferry so I wouldn't have to leave my car there for the weekend.
"We'll be there when the doors open to pick up our tickets and maybe go to dinner after if you have the time," she told me as I got out of the car.
"Sounds good," I nodded. We said goodbye and I left to get on the ferry to start my commute. Luckily, with it being the mid afternoon not too many people were commuting so I was able to get to the theater sooner than planned. Everyone that was there, were rushing around making sure everything was set. We still had a few more hours so I didn't understand the urgency but went on my way.
"Happy opening night," Aliyah said walking in behind me as we both checked in.
"You too," I smiled, "Are you ready?"
"I'm always ready," she laughed as we made our way into the dressing room.
We got dressed and I found and empty spot at the long vanity to get ready at. I had to curl my hair up as tightly as it could and then tease it out. Once that was set I worked on my make up. We would have sound check and then I would get ready in my costume.
