Not even 5 minutes later, my bedroom door opened and a familiar woman in her 30s stumbled inside, followed by a panicking Wendy. The woman politely smiled at me while coming near and standing in front of my sitting figure. I tilted my head a little and blankly stared at her, waiting for her to say something.
"Hello Haneun, I am your doctor, Laura Wilson but you can just call me Laura." She smiled but it stiffened when she saw the drips ripped off of my hands.
Haneun. The name I gave myself after I was picked up from the streets and I automatically became a Lee after I found out my origin. In my past life, I've never once uttered my real name in front of anyone. It was a forbidden word in my life because it reminded me of what I lost. My real name, given by my mother was Yang Y/N. I always laughed bitterly inside when someone called me Haneun because a part of me wanted to embrace the only thing that women had left me but I was just too petty.
Now that I think about it, maybe the first person to show me kindness wasn't Mr. Lee (Y/N's father) but rather my mother. After all, she didn't dump me in a dumpster.
"Miss Haneun, you shouldn't have ripped it out like that. Your body is still weak after--" Laura stopped herself from speaking any further and I could see from the side of my eyes that Wendy was glaring at her. I couldn't help but be a little amused. Back in time, I never noticed how protective Wendy was towards me.
I've already known Laura in my past life. She was introduced to me when I was just 10. Even in that life, those were the same words she said when we met (Except that last bit of not ripping the drips out.) I was kidnapped just a few days before I turned 10. I remember going out with some bodyguards for shopping a dress and a present for that man after I found out that he was my dad. On my way back, we were attacked by his enemy.
I think you can pretty much guess what happened next. Yep! They killed all my bodyguards and took me a hostage and tried blackmailing my father to give up his everything.... For me! Lmao jokes on them! That man didn't even receive their call the second time after they told him the price.
My 10 years old self had thought that their faces were terrifying after that but now that I think about it, it was pretty savage from my father's part. He naturally gives off that 'IDGAF' vibe.
To sum everything up, those angry hoes beat me up black and blue but I was ultimately saved after 6 days by my father's men. And to bring my skin back in color, Laura was appointed.
So if this is the year 2010 that means I'm 10. Then, according to the timeline, the year I was first kidnapped. And right now, it's maybe some days after I was rescued. Because in my past life, I didn't wake up for 3 days.
"I mean-- you've still not recovered--"
"Why are you shuttering so much, Miss Wilson?" I interrupted her with an 'innocent' look on my face trying to ruffle her feathers. She looked like she was panicking inside but tried to not show it. Too bad because spending 12 years surrounded by fake snakes that can kill you for one slip-up, reading emotion is the last thing that is complicated for me.
"It's nothing, miss. We don't want you to remember those unpleasant moments. All Miss Laura wanted to say was that your body is still not fully healed. So miss should be more careful!" Wendy quickly saved Laura from saying something that could make me feel worse.
I silently watched Wendy being proud of her explanation and Laura looked relieved that she didn't have to answer. It was cute. Watching them panic about such a little thing. I'm not surprised because, for a 10 years old, this experience is supposed to be traumatizing. What they don't know is that I'm mentally a 21-year-old who had already died once.
