I slowed my pace the moment I exited the room. My shoulders shagged forward as I felt all my energy draining. A sudden feeling of fatigue hit me all at once as I felt my knees getting weaker. My heartbeat, which was skyrocketing the whole time when I sat with him, finally started calming down.

I was nervous. I didn't know I was until now. The whole while I was sitting there, I felt like someone was choking me. But now, everything finally felt normal. Not to mention, I am disappointed in myself for letting my emotions have so much control over me. Even in my past life, I let my emotion blur my vision and let them control me. In this life, I can't let that happen. Until now, I was somewhat successful at controlling my emotions but around that man, it was tiring for me to keep my guard up for so long.

I didn't miss that taunting voice he used while asking me about the teacher. But I'm not angry at him. I'm angry at myself because it felt so hard to control my urge of smashing his head on the table. It has always been like this. Never in my whole life, I've ever heard him utter some sweet words for me, and after so many years, I finally realized, that maybe I never will.

Maybe it was just my luck. I got a mother who abandoned me and a father who wants to but for some reason can't. Maybe he is afraid that someone will kill him, and then it might ruin his reputation as the untouchable man in the mafia world.

I thoughtlessly opened her bedroom door, only to hear a loud boom, followed by some confetti falling on my head. I caught some of them in my palm and stared at them with a blank face. What now?

"Happy birthday to you~
Happy birthday to you~

Happy birthday, happy birthday~
Happy birthday Haneun!!"

Wendy's melodic voice filled my ears as I looked up at her. She was looking down at me and smiling brightly at me. A small table was set right at the center of my room and on top of it was my favorite cake. Some candles were lit on top of it and the table itself was decorated with flowers and other toys. I looked back at Wendy and raised an eyebrow which she returned with another blindingly bright smile as she tugged me toward the glass table in the center.

"I know your birthday has already passed 3 days ago, but I couldn't just let it go without celebrating it once!" She said excitedly and handed me a knife, nodding towards the cake.

Just like before, I was rescued the day after my birthday and I woke up 1 day later. So naturally, my birthday had passed without any celebration. But me being the small arrogant kid I was, I cried and demanded a present, especially from my father on my birthday. Getting fed up with my nagging, he had given Mr. Oliver a simple diamond necklace and told him to give it to me.

Although I was disappointed that he didn't give it to me, it still was very valuable to me. I don't remember a time when I left this house without wearing that damn thing!

A small, barely noticeable smile tugged on my lips as I looked at the Y/F/C (your favorite cake) on the table. I kneeled on the floor followed by Wendy who stared at me with an extremely soft expression while she waited for me to blow the candles. Silently following her wishes, I was about to blow on the candles when she stopped me.

"Young miss should make a wish!" She said and I realized that I was still 10 years old in her eyes. Ahh, how troublesome! Nonetheless, I nodded and closed my eyes for a few seconds, pretending that I was wishing for something before blowing out the candles.

I cut the cake, feeding the first bite to Wendy who did the same with me. She abruptly stood up and ran towards my bed. When she walked back, I noticed a small and very familiar bag in her hand. My eyes narrowed at the paper bag, unknown to Wendy who excitedly pushed the bag towards me.
