"So, we're going home soon." Draco said as we walked along the grounds.
There was a fresh blanket of snow along the ground. So as we walked, we left our footprint behind with each step.
"I know."
"Do you think we could just stay here for the holiday?"
I shook my head. "Our father's would personally come to hogwarts and drag us home by our ears."
"It's a shame we won't have the annual christmas party. I would love to see what dress you would wear this year."
"Blame that on our guest."
Draco stopped walking and faced me. "Y/n, just know that whenever we're at home, you can always count on me to be there with you, okay?"
The corner of my mouth turned up. "Well, I would hope so."
He leaned down and pressed his lips gently against mine.

On tuesday, I struggled through the snow on my way towards hagrid's cabin. Hagrid stood waiting for us on the edge of the forest. The bruises that had been purple on saturday night were now tinged with green and yellow and some of his cuts still seemed to be bleeding. I could not understand this: had hagrid perhaps been attacked by some creature whose venom prevented the wounds it inflicted from healing? As though to complete the ominous picture, hagrid was carrying what looked like half a dead cow over his shoulder.
"We're workin' in here today!" Hagrid called happily to us, jerking his head back at the dark trees behind him. "Bit more sheltered! Anyway, they prefer the dark."
"What prefers the dark?" Draco asked from beside me, my hand in his. "What did he say prefers the dark - did you hear?"
I shrugged my shoulders. Truth be told, I had no idea what we were learning today.
"Ready?" Hagrid said cheerfully, looking around at the class. "Right, well, I've bin savin' a trip inter the forest fer yer fifth year. Thought we'd go an' see these creatures in their natural habitat. Now, what we're studyin' today is pretty rare, I reckon I'm probably the on'y person in britain who's managed ter train 'em."
"And you're sure they're trained, are you?" The panic in draco's voice even more pronounced. "Only it wouldn't be the first time you'd brought wild stuff to class, would it?"
"Draco." I sighed, knowing it would be no use.
The slytherins murmured agreement and a few gryffindors looked as though they thought draco had a fair point, too.
"Course they're trained." Hagrid scowled and hoisted the dead cow a little higher on his shoulder.
"So what happened to your face, then?" Draco demanded.
"Mind yer own business!" Hagrid said angrily. "Now, if yeh've finished askin' stupid questions, follow me!"
I bit back a laugh and followed hagrid into the trees.
We walked for about ten minutes until we reached a place where the trees stood so closely together that it was as dark as twilight and there was no snow at all on the ground. With a grunt, hagrid deposited his half a cow on the ground, stepped back and turned to face his class.
