The workday had come and gone. One more day I thought to myself and then it will be the weekend. It was Thursday mid-October. My favorite month. My cell phone dinged, it was my mother: Hey, are we still on for dinner tonight? Let me know, your father will be out of town this weekend so, I was hoping we could spend some time together. I replied back: yes, mom lol I wouldn't miss it for the world, do you need anything? I pushed sent and she replied quickly: yes please, I forgot the wine and lettuce when I went grocery shopping can you bring some? I quick texted yes and began to gather my stuff to leave.
I went to the store and bought a few items including my favorite red wine and the head of lettuce. Everything was able to fit in one bag thank god. I stood outside the grocery store for a second, my eye was itching my contacts were irritating my eyes which meant it was time to change them. I was rubbing my eye when I person bumped into me from the behind, my hand jolted over my eye. It hurt... I felt irritated and embarrassed that I almost fell...I stabilized my feet and blinked a few seconds... the people around me began to give me weird looks... I turned and looked at my reflection in the grocery window...One of my eyes were swirling green and pink... I had lost my contact... I began to feel a slight panic...had anyone seen my eyes change colors. I could feel the fear building and already knew my eyes were changing colors again...I quickly put my hand over my eye and began brisk walking to the car. The stress was building...I was attempting to brisk walk, with groceries, with a hand over my eye, while in the middle of the city, in the middle of the afternoon rush, and people were everywhere around me walking in all directions. I wasn't far from my car...I was almost scot from...when someone behind me had ran into me and I lunged forward...the force threw me to the ground...well more like into the person who was standing in the middle of the sidewalk...I fell at their feet. I heard a shatter and already knew the wine had busted.... There I was on the ground, in the middle of a busy street, now covered in wine, my arms and forehead stinging from the skids of the concrete it ate...I didn't know what to do. I was scared and panicking, and embarrassed.
I felt an arm reach under mine and help assist me up. I caught my balance and my head HURT, I put my hand to my head and groaned in pain...I blinked a few times and shook my head to stop the distortion.
"Are you okay," a voice said to me as I lowered my hand and looked in their direction.
"I m alright" I said as I looked to the unknown voice.
The bright sun was just in my eyes and I attempted to look at this person. I could make out a black suit and black hair. I began to step into their shadow so I could see their face. The look was written all over their face... it was a look of shock and confusion...I knew instantly what he saw...I slapped my hand over my eye and made a mad dash for it...
Back at home I laid in bed, completely wrecked from the afternoon. I had already called my mom and explained I wouldn't be able to make it but that I would come tomorrow. I lie there lifeless taking shallow breathes...I could feel the darkness pulling...my depression was trying to take over in place of my anxiety... I really need to get up...I can't just lay here and fall into this episode. My thoughts were eating at me I could hear my inner dialogue arguing with itself...I took a shuttered breath and sat up you know what you need you need to go breathe some fresh air I stood and walked outside. I stood in the middle of my garden, breathing in, and out getting a control over my breathing and slowing down my heart rate. I finally calmed down. I sat on the bench and looked up to the sky. The moon was almost full, in about another day or two it would be a full moon. I heard a rustling in the trees and looked. I only saw a lonely bird perched on a branch. Birds loved my garden, but I didn't hardly ever seen birds this time of night. "hello birdie", I said with a slight giggle. The bird flew over towards me and landed on the bench. It chirped at me. I held out my hand and the bird hopped in. I was astonished, I never really expected the bird to hop in my hand. I brought the bird up to eye level and admired it. It was a good-sized bird with dark black feathers. "whatcha doing out so late birdie" I admired the bird and the bird just stared back at me... It tilted its head to the side chirped at me. I just giggled. The bird took off from my hand and land a few feet away on a post. I sighed, just a sigh. I looked down at the plant by my feet that looked to be welting. I touched its petals and giggled. "ok, I will get you some water" I sighed.
A bird chirped, and I looked at it and then back down. I reached for the water pail and poured the remaining of the water on the plant. I sighed through my lips and turned and walked back inside. I was tired and ready for bed, I cracked my window and walked back towards my bed. As I looked back, I saw the black bird perched on my window seal. I smiled faintly at the bird and got comfortable in bed.
