The Midgardian? - A Loki Story

Part 21

I stood on my balcony and looked to the sky. My heart ached for Luna not knowing where I am or when I will return. I thought I would be able to return immediately to her, but Odin has other plans for me. It has already been two days and I have yet to hear from Odin. With what little patience I have, he is pushing it to the limit. Its fine. I will do as Odin asks. I will then be able to leave and then I will be able to see her again. This is fine.

My patience had run out. It had been an entire week and Odin still had not called for me. I demand to know what is taking him so long. I barged into the throne room.

"Father, I would like to know why I have not heard from you about what I am to do to be welcomed back."

"Ah, Loki just the person I want to see. I was about to send for you" Odin said fiercely.

What a coincidence...

"So, father what am I to do to be back in your graces."

I could see the smile form onto my father's face. This only happens when he knows I will protest whatever he was about to say.

"Loki." He boomed. "I have arranged a marriage for you and are to be married here. Tomorrow."

"MARRIAGE!" "How could you arranged me into a marriage without asking me if I even wanted to get married, how can you arrange me into a marriage when I don't even know the girl, how –."

"SILENCE!" Odin roared smashing down his scepter.

"You wished to get into my graces, you wish to be welcomed back into Asgard. This is what must happen."

I was silent. I was angry. I was hurt. What about Luna? How would I ever explain this to her?

"I do not wish to get married." I protested.

"fine, but you are to be thrown back into prison until your end days and you will never return to earth or any other planet for that matter."

I don't know what to do. If I don't do as he says, I will be imprisoned and then I really won't ever see her again. If I follow through with the wedding... I would be able to leave Asgard as I please and I could still see her. I could explain to her what happened. She is a reasonable person and might understand that if she wanted to see me again... then it was the only way. Its an arranged marriage anyway, who is to say this woman doesn't have another lover as well, she may be happy that we were married just for our duties but could live independently...

"Judging by your silence...Fine then its settled, you are to married tomorrow." Odin said this with anger yet pleased he was getting his way tone...

I said nothing else and turned to leave.

I walked swiftly to find Thor...

"Thor, Odin has told me what he wants me to do to finally be let back in..."

Thor studied my demeanor and already knew I was upset.

"Its that bad?"

"he has arranged for me to me married tomorrow... how am I going to explain this to luna"

"just tell her the truth, that it was your duty to Asgard to marry this woman, but that you do not love her, its merely just business between parents..."

I sat and thought long and hard about this...I was torn. I didn't want Luna to think me any less, but I couldn't go without seeing her the rest of my life. Whatever happens, even if she never wants to see me again...I will always be able to watch over her, see her grow, and love her from afar.
