XIV. Loki Part 24

I didn't sleep a wink last night.... I was not prepared to go through with this commitment.

"It'll be alright brother" Thor gave me a forced smile.

Thor offered to help me in my chambers to get ready... It was mainly me pacing around the room. We stood there when we heard faint screaming...

"By gods where is that coming from...is that the dungeon." Thor said uncomfortably.

In all of my years I have never once heard screaming of that nature from the dungeon.

"Maybe we should check it out" I asked glancing at Thor.

He just shrugged. We made out way down to the dungeons where two guards stood at the entry way.

Thor stood tall. "Stand aside please, we have business to attend to."

The guards did not move. "We are under strict order from the king. No persons are allowed to enter the dungeons for exposing the princess..."

"the princess who is currently screaming for her life down there...what kind of arranged marriage is this...is this some form of torture for her." I asked dauntingly 

The guards did not move and did not say anything else. Thor and I turned and went back to my chambers.

"obviously, the princess is being held against her will" Thor murmured.

I looked at him in distaste.

"Oh, don't give me that look brother...this is a good thing." Thor sounded happy.

"and how is this exactly a good thing." I asked

Thor cleared his throat

"This is obviously some for of power grab for Odin, its an arranged marriage between you and some family who happen to have a daughter that was advantageous to him...if the princess is not wanting to get married...then she is in the same boat as you... you can marry just to accept your duties and then explain to her that she is free to do as she pleases...and that means..."

"I'd be free to do as I..." "Yes.... that might actually work" I shot Thor a smile "Since when did you become so cunning"

"Learned from the best" Thor belly laughed

We Stood there at the alter...waiting for the ceremony to begin. I was still uncomfortable with the arrangement but if it meant I could see Luna again then my all means...

I was standing there in my own thoughts when I heard it. It sounded like she was getting murdered...I could hear her from all the way down the hall. My stomach churned at the sound of her screaming... its fine... we will get through this and then I'll explain to her that she's free and doesn't have to be tied to me...dear god she doesn't want to be here...

Everyone was staring at the doors all in worrying over the girl being forced through them. They all gasped and whispered in denial that this could be happening...

Her screams sounded blood curtailing. And finally, they were at the entrance. I dared not turn around. I felt pity for the poor girl, but I needed to do this and I didn't want to chance sympathizing with her into calling it off... I needed to do this so I could be in father's good graces, so I could go back to earth, and see my Luna...

I was going to have to do this... Then I heard it...

My name echoing through my ears from the loveliest voice....it sent chills down my arms and my heart dropped...
