Happiness is the ultimate goal.

You feed yourself to be content and happy.

You work to have a content life and be happy.

You fight wars for happiness,

You love for happiness.

But what if the world renders no happiness to you?

What if you are so deep struck in the murky waters of darkness that there is no way you have a shrivel of light?

No chance of escaping?

IRENE:

Charms.

The exam was relatively easier than potions and transfiguration but a question had Irene stuck for several minutes. Not that she didn't know the answer, rather it was embedded in the back of her mind in a neat cursive scrawl on her parchment by the delicate hand of Draco Malfoy.

Draco Malfoy was a puzzle. A beautiful, intricate, utterly confusing and challenging one. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn't get the enigma that is Draco Malfoy out of her head.  But Irene Pierce did always like puzzles.

"Hey Pierce!" a voice called me while I was heading to my dorm after exams.

I turn around to find the source. Pansy.

"Parkinson" I nod and wait for her to speak.

"Can we talk?"

"Sure"

"Not here"

"Oh. Lead the way"

She starts walking without looking back at me and I follow. She leads us to the gardens.

"Listen" she starts and my brain starts whipping each and every possible scenario as to why Pansy would want to talk to me and they all land on one conclusion. Draco.

"About Draco and me" I was right.

"Yeah?"

"You know we weren't really a thing, right?"

"I deduced as much"

"Good" she says and looks at me for a moment. She seems to be deciding whether to share further or not. She finally takes a deep breath and continues, "Draco and I have been friends for a long time now and you haven't even known for a year, no offence" I simply nodded and gestured for her to continue. "He is a complicated person to say the least. Draco's family is twisted Pierce. His aunt, Bellatrix is a maniac. His father" she scoffed "Well his father has never actually been a father. His own flesh and blood have been cruel to him Pierce, you can imagine what that does to a person"

"He, he has no one at his place?"

"His mum" she gave me a small smile. "Narcissa Malfoy is a different story Pierce, but what you should know is that she will always put her son above everything else"

"You're telling me all this because?"

"Because" she looks at me directly in the eye, "I did tell you that I have known Draco for a long time yes? All this time he has never liked a girl until you"

My heart started beating so fast, I doubt Pansy didn't hear it.

"Me?"

"Wasn't it obvious Pierce? Thought you ravens are meant to be smart. Draco has never even had sex with a girl in his dorm room. Something tells me that you're an exception" she raises her eyebrow at me.
