After that, nothing happened for a good while. Daniel and I stayed good friends, as did Oliver and I- all rumors were finally eradicated.

( actually , a whole bunch of stuff happened but since its all irrelevant to whats happening now , we'll skip it ;)

Before I knew it, freshman year had begun.

"9th grade!" I exclaimed, opening my new locker. I'd gotten the top one this year, and I was definitely happy that I didn't have to crouch down anymore. "Whoa, we graduate in less than 4 years!"

Reese chuckled. "Yep, and driver's licenses in just two."

"Holy sh-" I grabbed him by the shoulders. "Oh. My. Geometry. Reese, we're going to prom in 3 years! What if I have to go single?"

He laughed, staring into my frantic eyes.

"Not funny, Ree!" I exclaimed, punching his shoulder. "What if I'm not dating anyone by the time prom comes around? I can't go to mother fudging prom solo! It's literally a one time thing and- what the hell is so funny?" I asked, stopping mid-rant.

"Oh, Mel," Reese tsked as we headed to homeroom. "Don't you remember anything at all from 7th grade?"

I tilted my head in confusion.

"Well, you were stressing over this same thing, about going to prom without a date. I remember telling you if such a thing did happen, I'd be your partner for the day and we'd go together- and you agreed."

I looked up into his eyes. "I don't remember that... you'd really do that for me though?"

"Of course."

"What if there's someone you like by then?"

"I don't know... I guess we'll find out in three years, eh?"

Walking into class, I spotted Evan, Jenna, Maddie, and Ben.

"Em! I'm so so glad we're all in the same class this year!" Jen squealed.

I nodded happily. "We got lucky for real. Pretty sad about Jake and Oliver though."

"At least they have each other. I heard Abby's also in Mrs. Holden's homeroom though," Maddie grimaced.

"Poor Oliver."

At Princeville High, Study Hall was only 30 minutes.

As we'd always done, Jenna, Maddie, Reese, Oliver, Evan, Jake, and I all sat together at a table.

"Wow. I've already been away from Cali for almost a year," I realized.

"You been talking to anyone from there lately?" Reese asked.

I shook my head. "It's been hard with the 3 hour time difference."

There was a moment of silence. "Alright, we're not supposed to know yet, but I overheard our parents talking the other day. Since we're neighbors and all now, they got back in touch. Apparently, we might take a short trip to California during break next year."

My eyes lit up. "Really? I can't wait..."
