-𝐌𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐝𝐲-After 4th was Study Hall, which Madelyn told me was basically just a 45 minute break/study time/work sesh.
The beanbag chairs in a corner of the library were vacant, so Jenna, Anna, Madelyn, and I immediately snagged them.
I was so glad to have met my new friends. They made being the new girl so much easier.
"Listen, Melody..." Jenna looked over her shoulder at Madelyn and Anna, who were busy doing homework. "I honestly don't think Oliver is completely bad- and Maddie agrees with me. I say you should give him a chance."
"Yeah, it feels weird to me that Oliver would be so nice to me when they say he's a jerk. He seemed really genuine."
Jenna nodded. "I think he actually might like you."
I shook my head. "I've known him for like, 5 hours. Why would-"
"Hey! I've been looking for you everywhere, Melody," a voice said, cutting off my conversation with Jenna.
"Hi," I replied timidly.
"You guys mind if we sit here?" Oliver asked, motioning to himself and his friends. "It's okay, we don't bite," he joked after noticing Anna's glare.
Anna opened her mouth to say something, but Madelyn answered before her.
"It's fine, you guys can sit."
Oliver introduced me to his friends, Evan and Jake. Of course, they were the exact type I had expected his friends to be- athletic, tall, and definitely on the good looking side.
"So where did you move here from?" Evan asked.
"Southern California, around Orange County."
"That's cool," Jake said, opening a bag of Hot Cheetos. "We have a friend from California too. He's running late. Had to meet with Coach Grant about playing quarterback this season."
"Yeah, I told him he needs to meet the amazing new girl." Oliver flashed me a grin. "And... call me crazy, but why do I think he's actually mentioned you before?"
My head tilted to the side. "Really?"
"Yeah. And he also talked about some guy named Issac or Ivan or something," Jake added, his mouth full.
"Ian," I breathed. Jenna and I exchanged a look.
But who could it be? Oh no. It better not be Elliot. But I thought he moved to like Colorado or something?
My heart began to pound loudly in my ears. "W-what's his name?"
Evan opened his mouth to reply, but another voice from behind me spoke first.
"Melody?"
My eyes widened with shock. I griped the sides of my book and my knuckles turned white almost immediately.
I know that voice.
I knew exactly who it was, though I hadn't even seen his face yet. Instead of turning around, I stood up, gritting my teeth and trying not to let angry tears fall.
I could recognize his voice anywhere.
"Hey man, what took you so long?" Jake asked.
His question went ignored.
"Mel, is that really you? Wait, you're the new girl?"
My fists trembled with anger just from hearing his voice. It made me want to punch a hole through a wall or something.
