A beeping sound made me look up from my phone and out the window.
A moving truck was pulling into the driveway a few houses down the street. I squinted and realized it was Elliot's old house. He'd moved away at the end of the last school year. It was only about three weeks before school started again, so it made sense for there to be new kids coming in.
I opened the front door and saw Harper, who was two houses down from Elliot's old house, also peeking out of her door. She motioned for me to come closer, so I slipped on a pair of my brother's old slippers and walked over to Harper's.
"Looks like someone's finally moving into Elliot's old place, huh?"
"Yeah, I'm just glad he's gone," I sighed. "I wonder if the new family has kids our age?"
"I sure hope so- things have been getting boring around here," Harper laughed. "I heard you haven't updated your book for a while now?"
I rolled my eyes. "It's been far too long- oh, look! A guy's getting out of the van!"
We both peeked around the side of the house, although we didn't have anything to be nervous about.
"There's another dude!" Harper said, pointing at someone getting out of the other side.
"Whoa, they're both pretty tall- they might be a grade higher."
Both guys looked extremely alike, although the first one was better looking in my opinion. They looked Asian with sharp but kind eyes and dark hair.
Oh dang, they're really good-looking.
Some people from our neighborhood were already going up to the new family and greeting the new family.
"Should we go say hi too?" I asked Harper, excited but slightly nervous.
"In your pajamas? Have you gone crazy?" she eyed me jokingly. "Change and get ready, then let's meet back here."

Going for a more cute vibe than a cool one, I threw on a pair of jean shorts and a white sweatshirt.

After brushing my hair out and slipping on a pair of slides, I excitedly went over to Harper's.
"Cal and Tess are busy, and Lex is still at camp, so it's just us," she said.
I took in a deep breath. "Alright, let's go."
We walked over as well to the small crowd.
"Hey." One of the boys we'd seen appeared in front of us.
"Hi! I'm Melody," I looked to my side to see my poor friend all red and shy again. "...and this is Harper."
"It's nice to meet you. I'm Caleb." He suddenly grabbed someone who was passing by. "This is my brother, Connor."
