-𝐌𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐝𝐲-

August 2nd, 2021- two days before the first day of school

It was our school's Open House night. My friends and I would receive our schedules and get to know if we had the same classes or not.

I was wearing a gray sweatshirt and jean shorts with a pair of 3 inch wedge sandals.

(These pictures are crazy accurate to what I actually wore :0 )

As soon as we headed into the building, there was a list of names taped to the trophy case which told what homeroom class each student had. My friends and I rushed to see.

Knowing my name would be near the end because it was in last name alphabetical order, I moved towards the last few papers. It didn't take long before I found it.

"I have Mrs. Cohen!" I exclaimed.

"I have Mrs. Booker!" Cal said.

"Omg same!" Tess squealed.

"I have Mrs. McCarthy."

"Same, bro." Julian and Caleb fist bumped each other.

Connor grinned at me. "Mrs. Cohen here too."

Harper sighed. "Anyone have Ms. Fuller?"

"I have Mrs. Williams," Lexi sighed as well.

We split up to get our schedules. As I headed to Mrs. Cohen's class, I felt bad for Harper and Lexi, who were alone in homeroom this year.

"Excited for the first day of school?" Connor asked.

"Weirdly, the only days of school I look forward to are the first and last day," I replied. "It's like, I'm excited to start a new school year, but by the time it's the end of the year, I'm tired out and can't wait for it to end, you know?"

He shrugged. "That's reasonable."

We went to Mrs. Cohen's room to meet her, and as soon as we got our schedules, I took Connor's to see if we had any other classes together.

I went back and forth between the schedules. "Looks like we have 1st and 4th together... oh, and 7th too!" I was so immersed by the two sheets of paper that I wasn't even looking at where I was going.

As a person coming the opposite way neared, Connor pulled me by the shoulder into him. He smoothly brought his arm around my shoulders to guide me, as I was still looking at the papers.

I hope he can't tell my face is burning up right now...

We reached the others with our schedules. Ian took one look at the arm around my shoulders and pushed Connor's arm off to replace it with his own.

I rolled my eyes. For some reason, I felt perfectly comfortable with Connor until Ian put his arm around me. Somehow, I liked Connor's embrace better than Ian's.

Maybe it's a sign...

My friends and I compared our schedules- I had 1st period with Connor, 2nd with Lexi, 3rd with Caleb and Julian, 4th with Connor and Tessa, 5th was Focus (basically a study period), 6th with Callie and Harper, and 7th with Connor and Lexi. I was so glad I had at least one of my friends in every class. Last year, I only had my best friends less than half of my classes.

I grinned to myself.

It's going to be a good year.

nah, i don't think it was that good
