-𝐌𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐝𝐲-I woke up around 7:00 am as usual, showered, and changed into a sweatshirt and a pair of wide leg jeans.
I lazily pulled my long dark brown hair into a simple side braid and added mascara and lip gloss, already dreading the rumors I'd face at school.
---
"Did you hear yet?"
"Hear what?"
"Melody cheated on Ian Kai, the 9th grader."
"Weren't they like, the school's most shipped couple?"
"They were."
"Ugh, she's so lucky to have dated a high schooler. Who'd she cheat with?"
"That new guy who's already super popular, Connor Jeong. Look, there's Melody!"
I was at my locker, trying to ignore the two girls whispering loudly five feet away from me.
Do they think I'm deaf or something?
I slammed my locker shut, not bothering to give them eye contact as I stormed off to 1st period.
I headed up the stairs and reached Mrs. Cohen's classroom, but Sam suddenly appeared in a rolling chair, blocking the doorway.
"Good morning, Connor's girlfriend. What's the password?"
"I have a name, you know," I snapped. "And seriously, a password? You're an 8th grader, not an eight year old. Grow up, Sam."
With that, I pushed myself inside.
"Someone's snappy today," I heard him mumble to Henry.
I wasn't normally one to snap at people for no reason, but I wasn't in a good mood, and Sam only pissed me off even more.
Before the bell rang, Mr. David, the substitute teacher everyone knew to be the best sub ever, stepped into the class and announced that due to a small car accident, Mrs. Cohen was in the hospital.
"Don't worry, she's going to be alright. I'll be your substitute for a week and half until she comes back."
Everyone's faces lit up at the news. Of course, our teacher being in the hospital was nothing to smile about- but we also knew what Mr. David subbing for us meant: sitting wherever we wanted and no homework for a whole week and half. Nobody hesitated to get their stuff and move to other desks, near their friends.
Connor suddenly sat in the desk next to me. "Hey, sun-"
"Yo, Connor! Come sit with us!" Danny called from a nearby table with the other boys.
"I'm sitting here," Connor replied firmly. The boys shrugged and picked up their things and moved to our table.
That was how I ended up sitting at a table with a bunch of boys.
---
Before I headed to my next class, I stopped by my locker to get a few things, which was where I saw two girls from 1st period.
I wasn't interested in what they were talking about- until I heard my name.
"That girl, Melody?" Sasha Hopkins growled with anger. "I can't believe it! She's literally at a table full of guys! Ugh. That should've been me!"
I rolled my eyes. I always knew Sasha to be a brat inside, no matter how much every teacher thought she was an angel.
"I know, right? She snagged Danny, Ethan, Henry, Connor, and Sam! Sam's too good for her. Nobody deserves Sam Thornton," Reena Terry swooned with lovesick eyes.
"Ugh, and apparently Melody might be dating Connor. She's so overrated! Everyone loves her, and boys literally drool over her all day."
"I wonder if she even knows."
"Whatever. Connor deserves someone better," Sasha said with a devilish smile. "Someone like me."
"Yeah, you get him, Sash!"
Sasha tossed her perfect, shiny black hair with a mutter of, "Such a bitchy pick-me girl, that Melody."
Before I could reply, Sasha and Reena were gone, and I was frozen on the spot.
Is that really what people think of me?
you know , the fact that my self esteem & confidence caved in after this is just embarrassing .
