-𝐌𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐝𝐲-When we got home, I went upstairs to take a shower.
"Melody! Your friends are coming over for dinner!" I heard my mom shout as I was drying my hair.
"'Kay, mom!"
I immediately changed into a cute sweater and a skirt, adding a necklace.
I think this is good enough...
I opened the door to see Ava standing there with her arms crossed.
"Getting all dressed up, huh? Going on a date?"
"You call this dressed up? Which rock have you been living under?" I fired back.
Ava scoffed. "Whatever. Just know that I'm going to get back at you someday, whether it's in an hour, a year, or at your funeral."
I shrugged nonchalantly. "Sure."
I walked past my cousin with confidence, leaving her to be.
"Ian!" I spotted my boyfriend downstairs and rushed into his arms. "Beware of Ava," I whispered in his ear.
The doorbell rang, signaling that my friends had come.
---
"So," Ava said after dinner as my friends and I were in the living room. "Did Melody ever tell you about the time she got rejected by her crush?"
Excuse me?
"Really?" Callie asked, curiosity abundant. "What happened?"
"Yeah, what happened?" I asked, taking Ian's arm and putting it around my waist. "I've never gotten rejected before."
Ava fake laughed. "Really, Melody? I'm sure you remember the time you spent the summer at my house and got rejected by my friend? SO embarrassing for you, hon."
I smiled and rolled my eyes.
"Oh, really? Wasn't it you that that happened to, hon? One of your friends finally convinced you to confess to him, so you went to his house and bluntly asked him out, right? There was so much embarrassment on his face, he was practically crying."
Ava's face turned bright red and she huffed and stormed upstairs, her arms crossed.
---
I'd convinced my parents to let my friends sleep over.
We were all settled in my room, the extra mattresses pulled out and sleeping bags spread.
Ava was in the room as well, so I changed into my pajamas that consisted of shorts and a spaghetti strapped crop top and sat extra close to Ian, just to spite her.
After we'd brushed our teeth, everyone gathered in a circle to play truth or dare.
Harper rubbed her hands together. "Alright. Truth or Dare?"
"Me first!" Lexi declared. Her eyes landed on Harper. "Truth or dare?"
"Truth."
"What's up with all the gossip about you and Thomas?"
Harper blushed. "Well... he asked me out a few days ago."
"WHAT?! Harper! Why didn't you tell us?!"
"Moving on, Callie, truth or dare?"
"Dare."
"I dare you to confess to you-know-who tomorrow."
I raised an eyebrow.
She smiled. "Done. Melody, truth or dare?"
"Truth." I replied.
"Is what Ava said downstairs true?"
"Nope. What I said was true, but-" I glanced at Ava and smirked. "-I've never confessed, so I've never been rejected. Ian, truth or dare?"
"Dare."
I whispered into his ear, "I dare you to flirt with me in front of Ava later. She still hasn't gotten over you."
Ian grinned. "Of course."
My smirk grew wider, and we turned back to the crew.
---
The game went on until we got bored of it, which was around 10 pm.
Everyone was pretty much half asleep, so Ian whispered to me, "Now?"
"Now," I replied, my eyes flickering to Ava, who was still awake.
We were on the wall farthest to the door, close enough to Ava so that she could see everything if she just tilted her head slightly.
"You're so beautiful today, Melody," Ian whispered, loud enough for Ava to hear. His lips almost touched my ear.
I could feel myself blushing.
Our lips met, and I could practically feel Ava's hating gaze on me.
"You think that was good enough?" Ian asked, pulling away.
Instead of replying, I leaned in and kissed him again.
"STOP!"
A cold hand was placed on my forehead and it jerked me away from Ian, making me hit the back of my head on the wall. Hard.
I let out a cry of pain and clutched the back of my head. I didn't have to look to know that it was Ava who had done this.
"Melody!" Ian, who had been thrown back as well, rushed over to me and stepped in front of me protectively. "Are you insane? Why would you try to hurt her?"
Everyone else had woken up by then.
Picking up on what happened, Callie cleared her throat and said, "Ava, leave. Now."
Ava did as instructed, storming off as usual.
I explained to the girls what happened in as few details as possible, my cheeks still on fire.
But my phone buzzed halfway through.
"What's that?"
"It's... from Ava."
It was a video. Callie, Tessa, Harper, and Lexi all gathered around to watch.
It was slightly blurry, but you could see me and Ian's figures against the wall.
"That little bitch..." I whispered.
Ava had taken a video of us the entire time.
"YOU GUYS HAD A MAKE OUT SESSION?!" Tessa shouted.
I said "No," at the same time Ian said "Yes."
"Tess, lower your voice. It was just to spite Ava."
"Yeah, right."
I sighed. "It's almost midnight. We should go to sleep."
We got settled into the sleeping bags, and Ian pecked my cheek.
"Goodnight, Mel."
"'Night."
tbh i wasn't sure if I should publish this or not lol
