After a while of studying, I was taking a break and talking to my friend Star when I suddenly got a call from Ian.

"Hello?"
"Hey Melody..."
"What's wrong?" I asked, noticing how his voice sounded different than his usual tone.
"I can't be with you anymore."
W-what?
I stayed still, unable to breathe. My eyes started blurring with tears.
"I'm sorry."
"Why?" I whispered. "D-did I d-do something wrong or-"
"This isn't your fault. It's me. I have to leave California, like right now. I don't know if I'll ever be back, and I don't want you to waste your time waiting for me. So we have to break up.
A tear fell. Then two.
"I'm sorry, Mel... but it's for the best."
Unable to say anything, I ended the call and inhaled a shaky breath.
Then I sat on my bed, gathered my blankets around me...
And cried.
