In the thick of it, to sum it up, the advantage and element of surprise they had at the beginning had dwindled down to almost nothing and they were up to their necks in suppressing the villains that seemed to pour out of nowhere.
If he ignored just how worried he was about you, Ojiro could admit that there was a part of it that was exciting. To be a part of something so much bigger than himself and for the noblest cause there was: to fight on the side of protecting life.
There was something exhilarating about fighting alongside his fiercely loyal and dedicated classmates, renown pro-heroes, and talented students from other schools in a joint operation to bring down the ring of Quirk Traffickers and find you and Shinsou and make sure the both of you were alright.
He imagined Asui, Uraraka, Midoriya and Kirishima felt similarly conflicted from the operation involving Overhaul when they rescued Eri.
But with his side burning agonizingly, his whole body protesting violently with every move, Ojiro could do nothing else but grit his teeth and push through. He had to.
You and Shinsou and all the others down here were counting on them to pull it off.
If he was forced to follow Aizawa-sensei's orders and run, he's not sure that he could bring himself to leave. If he found you hurt—
Ojiro shook his head. He couldn't entertain such spiraling thoughts right now. He had bigger things to concentrate on.
Such as the influx of villains that had just made themselves known from the east corridor. Rushing in like a flood, stifling the air and making it hard to breathe, they filled every available inch of space in the area.
The heroes were pinned.
Ojiro grabbed Awase's arm, yanking him out of the way of a spray of bullets as Asui quickly swooped the offenders off their feet before they could follow through on their failed attack.
"Thanks man." Awase thanked briefly with an appreciative nod, straightening to stand shoulder to shoulder, tall and proud alongside a winded Kodai.
The girl didn't give much expression but Ojiro didn't need to for her to be more expressive to know she had a plan.
He lifted an eyebrow. "Rule-san, you got something?"
This way of talking was unfamiliar to all of them, Ojiro most of all but their sensei insisted that their identities remained a secret. Even down to coding the way they normally spoke.
They couldn't afford to be careless. Not with so many lives at stake.
The smoke hanging in the air was so thick that Ojiro could no longer detect or see his other classmates. The only clue he had was the sound of Bakugou's banshee screeching above the sounds of battle and assault as quirks popped off all over the place, flashes of light blinding him that he almost missed Aizawa running back to them.
"Tail-chan, kero." Asui croaked, gesturing to something off to the side.
Ojiro looked. And blinked.
"Kaminari." He breathed, growing more and more relieved as relief settled deep in his bones as the electric boy disguised with dark hair and clothes gestured frantically to them from the void.
To anyone else, it would've appeared as though nothing was amiss. Just a panicked boy crying for help. But Ojiro knew better, as did Asui, if the way her eyes widened, then slitted a millisecond later.
Sharing a knowing glance, the two engaged in hand to hand with the enemy surrounding them, keeping their quirks under careful wraps despite how hard it was for the two of them.
