Thank All Might you could navigate in the dark. Heightened senses zeroed in on the breathing of your classmates around you, ears flicking as they picked up the sounds of the villains up ahead.
Calm and even. Focused and measured. Precise and defined. They weren't scared at all having almost the entirety of the pro-heroes of Japan after their hides.
You breathed in deeply. Steadying yourself. Readying yourself for what was to come.
The train being hijacked on your way back to Musutafu with Shinsou had been one of the most terrifying experiences of your entire life. It was close, but thankfully there was a pro nearby that helped control the situation before it got entirely out of hand. No lives were lost, but there was a child who was taken in the midst of it. You and your brother resolved to find him before you went back home, Shinsou firing off a text to your dad. At least, he thought he did. It wasn't either of your faults the communication didn't go through due to the lack of reception, nor was stumbling upon the headquarters of the largest operation of the Quirk Traffickers Japan had seen in a millennium.
You couldn't stand by and do nothing.
Your provisional licenses protected your actions, but even if it didn't, you weren't sure you would've made the decision to abandon the kid. Thankfully, you didn't have to ponder or linger for long.
Tactfully getting captured by some of the low level guards outside allowed you and Shinsou to infiltrate without raising suspicion. The first strategy your dad had taught to the both of you proved the most helpful in that moment.
Low to the ground, you slinked forward, willing your trembling breaths to even out, despite your heart thumping in your chest. Your dad was not a fan of you going in alone, neither was Ojiro or your brother, or any of your friends, but you had to do this part alone. The lower the numbers that breached their forces now, the higher your chances of success in the long run. Besides, it wasn't like you were going to be alone.
"We know you're out there."
Your breath hitched at the grating hiss and your heart skipped a beat in fear. Exhaling shakily, you pushed past the last barricade and showed yourself.
There was no light. But you didn't need any to see the three of them.
Eyes adjusting to the darkness, you were careful as you cleared the rest of the blockade to position yourself at the edge of the room. Raising your head defiantly, you analyzed the situation. None of them made a move and from what you could tell, if they had quirks, they weren't visible. The hideout was bare. Void of any light and life.
"I would sure hope so." You replied flippantly, circling around the room, blinking slowly. Purposefully. Something shuttered soundlessly behind your eyes, invisible to the naked eye. "You'd make some pretty shitty villains otherwise."
One of them snarled, a network of black tar spider-like threads sprouting from their arms to form a web all around them. "Why you little—"
"Wow, if it takes that little to get you riled up, it's a wonder how someone hasn't beaten the living shit out of you yet." You drawled, projecting your best Bakugou impression. He would be proud.
A low, evil laugh sent icy shivers down your spine in fear.
"You've finally returned to your rightful place." A woman stepped forward, gaze hard and deathly calculating. She looked completely ordinary and a quick scan of her figure left you unable to figure out her quirk right off the bat. "Puppy."
The flinch invoked from your whole body stopped time. You recognized her. Flashes of terror and nightmares revolving around glinting steel and dripping blood. One name came to mind.
