Chapter 13: Jinx

As we enter Rithen, I feel a little dizzy. But it didn’t feel like a dizziness you’d get from dimensional travel. It felt more painful, darker, like I was changing... but we need to do this, so I ignore it, fight it off. Just out of our luck, our portal pops up on the side of a skyscraper inside Rithen’s underwater city.

“Not again...” Zeth mumbles as I create earth pillars slowly descending for all of us to land safely on. I land softly on my bare, red furred feet, watching Zeth and Muse laugh their asses off as Brandon scrapes himself off the concrete his face smashed into.

“I’m not good at this...” Brandon grumbles, sending a death stare to Zeth.

“Hey! We’re not laughing at your demise. We’re laughing at your pain.” Zeth wipes a tear from his eye and follows Muse further down the street of the city.

We start off at a jog, but as we see the ever increasing chaos, we break into a sprint. People become piles of blurred colours, and when they turn around to check on me, I just nod, focusing on the mission.

As we reach the city centre, there are small piles of bodies, most decimated from scythe blows. Around a blur of grey I only realise to be a corner before I smash into it, is Jazzmozzelle, fighting a few soldiers with the rest lying in the street, dead. Zeth goes first, sending tendrils at Jazzmozzelle from under the pavement. She’s knocked off her feet as he catches her in the sky, her scythe clattering to the ground. Muse runs up next to Zeth and adds fire to the restraints, keeping Jazzmozzelle perfectly in a disordered position that makes her look like she was disoriented at birth. I stay where I am, leaning on the side of an old hotel.

“You feeling ok Jinx?” Brandon asks before he goes over to the others.

“Fine...” I reply. “Just feeling...dizzy...”

“Just stay here. We’ll be back with you in a sec.” He gives me a little wave and strides towards Muse and Zeth. Usually, he would just ride on lightning. But since he’s underwater it probably isn’t a very good idea. The three clusters of random blur bring what I think is Jazzmozzelle to the ground. I can’t concentrate anymore, I really can’t. I shut my eyes, and drift out of reality...
