The nightclub was clearing out from recently closing as I walked inside wearing a open front chunky knit cardigan over my satin slip nightdress, with Birkenstock Arizona sandals pressing along the floor and the club lights shining on me. I searched around for one specific person and when my eyes found him, I smirked. He saw me approaching him, and another man he spoke with and smirked himself. "Joie, Joie. Whatchu doin' here, baby?"
"Come to talk to yo fine ass," I responded as I winked at Kyle. "Gotta second to chat wit me?"
"Fasho."
The friend of his walked off, giving Kyle and me privacy.
"So, what up, beautiful?" Kyle stared down at me, crossing his muscular and tattoo engraved arms across his broad chest.
"Caren, she's getting a divorce and needs a lawyer."
Kyle appeared taken aback by the information. "Damn, X and Caren been together for a long minute. But you know ion' practice law no more, Joie. I gave that up three years ago for a reason."
"Come on, Kyle, you were the best defense attorney to come outta the South Side. Caren needs a bulldog like you and you know Xavier is going to fight her hard on this."
"He the one wit the money, so, of course he is." Kyle remarked, "Have anyone of em been cheating?"
I gave him a knowing eye. "Xavier did. Clearly."
"Then the judge will be on her side mainly because he the one that ruined the marriage."
"Okay, and the custody?" I questioned because I know Kyle has worked several divorce cases and won—celebrity couples included.
"I mean, honestly, X a good father. He involved in his kids life, provides, and Caren not workin'. She don't have her own money. So, if you want me to be real, a judge gon' look at that as if she can't provide for 'em on her own. I've seen it happen."
I let out a deep breath and ran my fingers through my dark hair. "Okay, okay, um, if you can't do it, do you recommend anyone?"
"Susie Copeland. We worked in the same law firm and she won about the same amount of cases as me. She's a great defense attorney. But her retainer fee not cheap, nor is her hourly."
