Joy was born on September 3, 2000 and was best friends with Irene up until middle school. Near the end of elementary school, Joy overheard some other trainees talking about how Irene was the prettiest trainee and how Joy would never be able to debut for her life especially with her dancing skills that were worse than a troll's visuals.
After hearing this, Joy was heart broken and began to become more distant with her best friend. Although it wasn't Irene's fault, once she overheard the other trainees, Joy always felt that Irene was trying to beat her in everything and began to make fun of Irene with her new friends (that were no competition at all compared to Joy) because that was the only way to distract herself from Irene's beauty that was always there but never noticed by Joy.
Joy later went on to go to Seoul National University where her crush Kim Seok-jin would be going.
