Chapter 24 - Heartbroken

*Jin's Perspective* 5:00 p.m., during break

We went on break a few days ago and I had completely forgot about inviting Irene to Joy's New Year's party, so even though I might've ruined her break, I decided to still text her since I would've forgotten about it later on.

baerene <3

jinnie - hey, so i forgot to tell you, but joy wanted me to invite you to her new year's party

baerene <3 - joy?! you mean the one that put me through hell?

jinnie - ...yeah. but let me explain! joy said that she was sorry and that if you wanted to go, she would try her best to control her words.

baerene <3 - joy apologized?

jinnie - well, kind of. i could tell she meant it that way.

baerene <3 - so basically she didn't actually say that

jinnie - no, she didn't say it

baerene <3 - fine. i'll go but only because i'm expecting her to apologize in person, not just "meaning" it, whatever that means.

jinnie - great!

I let Joy know that Irene would be going and spent the next few days in peace until I received a text from Jisoo.

jichu

jichu - so i heard around snapstagram that joy's having a new year's party but it's invite only. did you get an invite?

jinnie - yeah, why? did you want an invite?

jichu - it would be nice to at least be invited

jinnie - well i guess you need a certain amount of visuals to get in

jichu - ha-ha

jinnie - you should ask her yourself if you want an invite tho

jichu - i did. she just said she "had her own reasons"

jinnie - then there's your answer.

jichu - wow thanks

jichu - bye

jinnie - bye

I took the subway back to Seoul the day before school started again. I was walking back to my dorm, when I saw Irene smile while looking at her phone. I didn't think much of it, but then Taehyung walked past me and asked Irene really quickly if she saw what he sent her. I was wondering what was going on between the two when I was cut off by Taehyung kissing Irene a goodbye on the cheek. I assume that the two started dating, and I looked down at the gift I got her for Christmas that was in my hand. I got her a purple snow globe, since that's her favorite color and she liked to collect purple stuff, and a pair of really nice earrings for her. I was planning on giving them to her and perhaps let her know about my tiny crush on her, but now I made the decision to just knock on her door, and hand her the gifts. I was hidden behind a corner and peeked to make sure that Taehyung had left and that she had gone inside. Making my way over, I had gotten sad. She answered the door and she was happy to see me.

"Oh my gosh, Jin! How was your break?" she excitedly said.

"It was fine. You're still going to the New Year's party, right?" I coldly state.

"Yeah. Just let me know what the type of clothes are worn to her party, where it is, and what time it is." she told me.

"Uh, yeah. I'll text it to you. Oh! Before I forget, here's your Christmas gift. Sorry. It's a bit late and rushed." I hand her the gift bag. She opens it up and gasps happily.

"This is such a pretty snow globe! I'll definitely add it to my purple shelf in my room. And these earrings! You didn't have to give these to me. I would've been fine with just the snow globe. Thanks though. Here's your gift!" Irene hands me a gift box.

I open the gift box and my eyes literally glow up at the gift. Inside was one of the rarest Super Mario figurines ever and the last MapleStory figurine I needed to complete my collection. I remember looking on websites and websites for the cheapest price and all of them were extremely expensive, even though I could afford them all, I wasn't going to pay so much for a single figurine. I noticed that my vision was getting blurry from my tears and I automatically walked across the table and hugged Irene tightly.

"Whoa! What's with you?" Irene was taken aback.

"I'm so sorry. And thank you." I was able to say through my sniffles.

"What are you sorry for?" she started patting my back.

"I saw Taehyung kiss your cheek in the hallway. I was cold to you. Please forgive me." I don't let go of my grip.

"Oh. It's fine. We started dating a little before break. But please don't tell anyone about it. Don't beat yourself over it. I can understand why you would be a little cold towards me." I look at her and then hug her again.

I thank her again for the gift and for understanding me and then leave her dorm. I didn't think that my minor crush would turn into anything more than it was, but when I saw Taehyung and Irene, even though it wasn't anything big, I realized that my feelings were a lot stronger and I started bursting out into tears as soon as I closed the door to my dorm. My cries were pretty loud, but I didn't care. I thought that I wouldn't be able to even face Irene, or anybody for that fact, but I pulled myself together and got through the first day. I was really depressed and didn't talk unless I was being talked to, or was asked to talk. My cries would soon get even more painful as the days went by, but the only thing keeping me up was the smile that Irene put on her face every day, and I couldn't help but wonder if it was just her personality that put that there, or if it was Taehyung, the main problem to my depression.
