Someone Like You

Chapter 6

ZENIYAH

"She just seems to be tired and very dehydrated from what I can tell, maybe even malnourished" I hear an unfamiliar female voice say 

"She was crying though and shaking. I SAW HER CRYING" I heard what sounded like Giovanni say unnecessarily loud. The female voice sighs and pauses for a minute before continuing, 

"Well I'm not sure some people cry when they're extremely tired, I can run some tests if you'd like sir" that's when I decide to make it known that I'm awake, there's no way in hell I'm letting my blood be drawn. I groaned opening my eyes and trying to push myself up slowly. A lady dressed in scrubs with a stethoscope around her neck slowly pushes me back down with worry in her eyes. 

I look around the room, I find Giovanni near the foot of the bed staring at me still looking angry as always. I see Alex standing by the door looking guilty. I point towards my throat needing water as my mouth was completely dry. Alex rushes out for a couple second then runs back in with a bottle and hands it to me. I lift my head slowly and drink the water, before licking my lips.

GIOVANNI

Even laying there with bags under her eyes and chapped lips she looks breathtaking.  When she darts her tongue out to lick her lips I feel my boxers tighten. I hold my intense stare at her face, I'm not even sure why I cared. I'm still rocking the bruise on my face from her punch and yet I was so worried about her. 

"Hi I'm Teresa, I'm a doctor, can you tell me the last time you had a full meal hun," my aunt says sweetly. 

"I ate some food 2 days ago last time I was here but before that, I hadn't eaten in 2 or 3 days," she says hoarsely, my auntie gasps looking at her. 

"No sweetheart that's very bad for you," Teresa says petting her hair motherly. 

"You're a fucking nurse, you know that you know that not eating is bad for you," I said angrily while glaring at her, she looks away unable to hold eye contact. 

"Sweetheart do you have any health issues?" my aunt asks. 

"Yeah, I have iron deficiency, chronic migraines, and anxiety I haven't been able to take my pills consistently because of my shifts" she mumbles.

"Wow you're strong, the iron deficiency would explain the fainting earlier especially with you not eating on top of it...." I drown my aunt out as I start at the girl lying in the bed. Why would she neglect her health in such a way? If Alex ever dared to do this I'd never let her see daylight again. 

I snap back into reality when I hear her stomach rumbling loudly. She blushes causing my aunt to laugh at her shyness and me to crack a smile. 

"Listen I'll be right back mio figlio, I'll go get some food for us all sì? [Translation: my son]. I hand my aunt a $100 bill with she takes begrudgingly, and leaves. 

I look back to Zeniyah to see she's pushed herself up I rush towards her and she shakes her head telling me to stay back. 

 "Are you ok?" I ask after a couple of minutes of silence. 

"Like you'd care, I thought I'm just one of your brother's whores" she scoffs looking at me in anger. 

"Is this bruise on my face not enough of revenge for you?" I said pointing at my cheek. She rolls her eyes looking away. I feel my chest tighten for some strange reason. I reach into my pocket pulling out a wad of cash I split it in about half and place it in her lap. 

She lifts the cash and looks at me for a second. 

"What is this" she spat looking at the money in disgust.
