Someone Like You

Chapter 16

Zeniyah

I feel myself gaining consciousness and already my head hurt. Through my eyelids, I can see wherever I am is extremely bright which motivates me to just never open my eyes. I become more aware of my surroundings when I hear a heart monitor beeping and the sterile smell of a hospital. I try my best to keep my heart and breathing steady just in case there's someone else in the room. I move my arms around a bit and feel IV tubes attached to myself. 

I eventually get fed up with the bright light and touch around feeling for a blanket, once I feel it, I pull it over my head, it barely helps to block out the light but it feels better. I try to make myself fall back asleep. 

I don't think I'm sleeping for more than 30 minutes before I hear a gasp. 

"No you can't be dead please, please wake up" I hear a voice yell while shaking me. The sheet is ripped off my face and I slowly open my eyes glaring at the intruder. Once my eyes adjust I see it's Alex. She attacks me with a hug once she sees my eyes are open. 

"Oh my god I came in here and the blanket was over your face like you know when they announce someone's dead I got so scared. Don't ever do that," she says with tears in her eyes. 

I stare at her blankly, moving my face feels like so much effort I'm not sure what's in these drips but they aren't doing shit for my headache. Alex presses a button for the nurse before running out herself. Soon a nurse walks in and begins asking how I feel and if I can move, she takes my pressure and writes down my vitals. Then she asks if I need anything and I nod before pointing to the bathroom then my mouth, she nods helping me to the bathroom and grabbing mouth wash for me to use before helping me back to bed. I've never liked morning breath. 

Once I'm back in the bed I nod trying my best to show gratitude to the nurse. She smiles before walking out saying the doctor will be with you shortly. Apart from my head, my ribs are aching badly I guess from being tackled. I close my eyes again for a while before I hear a group of people enter the room, I open my eyes to find Giovanni, Alessandro, Junior Alex, and Aunt Teresa. 

Teresa smiles at me while walking closer with a clipboard in her hand, 

"You scared us there for a minute, when you came in you had a concussion and you were passing out, and yet somehow your blood pressure was almost at 300, that's heart attack level," she says

I simply stare at her with no expression, she looks at the siblings nervously before looking back at me. She decides to continue when she realizes I wasn't going to react. 

"So based on the scans, we did you had some previous head injuries which would explain the migraines, you were out for about 3 days off and on, I don't think it's safe for you to be alone right now so I think I'll send you home with my niece and nephews if that's ok? " she finishes. 

I simply stare at her refusing to speak. At that moment another man walks in,

 "Cazzo, è sveglia" he says [Shit, she's up] . I immediately recognize the voice, suddenly I put it all together in my head the gunshot, the yelling, the 3 men chasing me, the familiar voice. It was them I think looking between the man, Giovanni, and Alessandro. I was a witness to them murdering someone. 

I suddenly understood why their aunt was sending me home with them, she was going to let them finish the job. I honestly don't have the energy to fight anymore so I decided to let it happen. 

After I was discharged, I don't have a change of clothes since it was drenched by the pond and muddied they threw it away. I'm given a sweater and based on the smell I know it's Giovanni's. After Alex puts the sweater on me, Giovanni lifts me and begins walking us out of the hospital, we walk out a side or back exit and there's a Cadillac Escalade waiting. 

Alessandro and the guy who I'm sure is "Tony" get in the front seat while Giovanni climbs in with me in his lap. Alex sits beside us occasionally rubbing my arm. We eventually pull up to the house and Giovanni climbs out taking me up to a room on the main floor near where Junior's room is and places me down. 

He looks at me and for a second I see pain flash in his eyes before I look away letting my head slump sideways. He sighs heavily before turning off the light and walking out. I lay there in bed letting a tear slip out my eye. I told myself I'd never let this happen again, I'd never let myself get to the point where I have to numb my emotions. 

OK so this was a short chapter but good things are coming
