Chapter 35

Zeniyah

The ballroom is absolutely stunning but I quickly realize something, I was the ONLY person in the entire room who was wearing red and was of color. I look at Alex and Giovanni trying my hardest to send a glare in their direction, even with the mask I think they got the message. We stay together as much as possible walking around and surveying the area, after about an hour a grand door opens and a man walks into the room. He climbs up onto the stage.

"Buonasera!" he booms into the microphone grabbing everyone's attention [Translation: Goodevening]

I almost immediately recognize the voice and look at Alex, based on the way her fists were clenched she did too. Sandro places a hand on her shoulder to help calm her and I step towards her holding her hand. 

"Siamo qui stasera per festeggiare la morte di Giovanni Russo e la presa in consegna di Marco" he continues. Pausing for a slow and scattered aplause

"What'd he say?" I whisper to Alex

"We're here tonight to celebrate the death of Giovanni Russo, and the take over of Marco," she whispers back making me snicker

"Per troppo tempo Giovanni ha cercato di governare dall'estero. Ha così poco rispetto per l'Italia!" he yells making Giovanni kiss his teeth and the crowd begins to get riled up.

"For too long, Giovanni has tried to rule from abroad. He has such little respect for Italy" Alex says translating again

"Ora che Marco lo ha ucciso a mani nude, ci sarà un cambiamento!" he yells again increasing the tension in the room. 

"Now that Marco has killed him with his bare hands, there will be change," Alex said again.

"Continuate a socializzare, Marco sarà sul palco a breve per rivolgersi a tutti" he says walking off the stage back out the hall. 

"Continue to mingle, Marco will be on stage shortly to address everyone," Alex tells me.

Giovanni begins talking in the headsets also talking to Sandro and Tony about how they should go about this. 

"I need to use the bathroom," I blurt out to Giovanni. 

"Does it have to be now?" he asks back

"Yes," I say looking at Alex

"Yeah," she says agreeing with me

"Fine, here take this and stay together," he says handing me an earpiece to place in my ear. I nod taking it before hugging him tightly and kissing him. 

Alex grabs my hand leading me out of the main hall. 

"What's up, I know you don't need to use the bathroom, you used it before we left and you don't drink," she says 

"We're going to pay Theo a little visit," I say looking at her to make sure she's ok with it. 

"Let's go," she says smiling and taking my hand again. 

We walk around for a while before we see him standing on an open balcony smoking with his back turned to us. I look at Alex squeezing her and she nods to me confirming she's ok.

She approaches him slowly and stands beside him, he turns towards her not recognizing her I assume as he continues smoking his cigar, 

"Evening sexy, what's your name," he says slyly not realizing who she is. She doesn't answer and continues looking straight. He slips behind her pressing himself against her, 

"Did you come to find me for a good time huh," he says sliding his hand up from her waist to her chest. I hold myself back from attacking him for a few more seconds hoping Alex didn't freeze. 

"Yeah I did," I hear Alex whisper making him freeze and drop his cigar. She quickly turns flipping them so his back is pressed against the railing now, and she's pressed on his front, facing him. 

"What happened fiance," she spits out, "Cat got your tongue?" 

"Listen, Alex, I'm not sure what that bitch Zeniyah said to you but she's lying she's been wanting to get with me," he says panicked. I decide to make my presence known stepping out from behind the plant. 

"Excuse me? Boy ain't nobody wants you," I say making his eyes widen

"I'm going to make this quick because I was told Niyah already did a number on you," Alex says pulling out a gun from on her thigh and screwing on a silencer. 

"Any last words?" she asks putting the gun to his forehead, I close my eyes not wanting to see it 

"Please, baby, I love-" he says before he's cut off by a quick and quiet shot. 

I open my eyes to see his body gone limp and falling off the balcony. 

"I've been meaning to do that for a while now," a voice says from behind us making me freeze and my heart drop. That voice. That very same voice has haunted my dreams for the past 7 years. That voice that took everything from me. 

I stand frozen terrified to turn around and Alex also doesn't turn, 

"Look at me when I speak to you!" he snaps making me and Alex both turn slowly, she glances at me and I see the worry in her eyes making me even more nervous. I stare at the floor refusing to look at him. 

"Remove your masks now and look at me!" he says. I hear Alex move making me do the same, I reach up to the strings of the mask slowly unraveling it. 

"Zeniyah"

"Dante"

"Marco"
