Zeniyah
I pay the cab driver before climbing out and grabbing my bags. I look up at the building checking to see if I've got the right address. After I stopped at my apartment in New York to put some documents together, I flew into Toronto about 10 pm. Pulling my bags up with me I make a silent prayer that everything goes well. Reaching in my pocket I pull out the spare key he sent me even though I swore I'd never return to Toronto, and yet here I am.
The elevator opens and I walk up to his condo unit sliding the key in and it unlocks. I walk in, placing my bags down and looking out the massive window at the view of downtown, I hear the click of a gun behind me and I quickly raise my hands,
"Turn around slowly," I hear his voice say making me smile. I raise my hand sliding off my hoodie and turning around,
"ZENIYAH!?!?" he yells dropping the gun
"In the flesh baby," I yelled before running towards him.
"Girl why ain't you tell me you were coming," he yelled hitting my shoulder making me wince badly.
"You gon soft?" he asks laughing
"Nope I got shot," I say pulling down my hoodie to show him
"BY WHO WHAT THE FUCK!" he yells jumping up
"Calm down Uncle," I say
"Nah Nyny I let you leave because you promised to stay safe," he says
"It was an accident, I'll explain everything I swear," I say looking in his eyes.
"Ok first you go shower, put your bags away and change, then you explain what you been up to and how you got here," he says and I nod getting up and grabbing my stuff.
I put my stuff in an empty room and head to the bathroom. I unwrap the bandages careful not to open my stitches before hopping in the shower. The whole time all I could think about is Giovanni, I hope I didn't mess things up beyond repair.
I climb out of the shower and put on lotion before changing into sweats and a t-shirt. I walk back to the living room and see take-out sitting on the living room table and suddenly I realize how hungry I am.
"What'd you get?" I ask sitting on the couch
"I got us Osmow's," he says making me gasp
"IT'S BEEN TOO LONG," I say grabbing a bowl and a fork
I begin eating and after a while, he says "So start talking,"
I explain everything from meeting Sandro to Alex then to Giovanni. I tell him about meeting Tony and being chased, I tell him about their trip to Italy and them coming back with Theo. I tell him how Theo treated me and what he needed up doing. I tell him everything about seeing Marco and getting shot and dreaming about Zebadiyah. When I'm done he stares at me for a while before pulling me into his arms.
"No tears?" he asks
"Nah I'm all cried out for now," I say
"Wait you haven't told me why exactly you're here," he says and I sigh
"Well when I first got to New York I spoke to a lawyer and he did some digging for me. Apparently, the judge that convicted Malik along with most of the jury was paid off by Marco," I say
"Who's Marco again?" he asks
"Dante," I say correcting myself making him clench his jaw and look away
"I should have been the one who killed him," he growled out
"It didn't change anything, I promise it made such little difference but we can fix a lot now, the soul "witness" in Malik's trial was Marco therefore now that he's dead and the judge is retired he can have a retrial," I say
"Ok but that could have months," he says sighing
"Nope, I spoke to some people and made some threats and got Malik an appealing trail tomorrow," I say making his jaw drop and tears form in his eyes
"My nephews going to get out?" he asks
"My brother's going to be free," I say hugging him.
We sit there talking for a little while longer and he tells me about how business has been amazing. My uncle owns about 17 nightclubs and strip clubs around North America, and a job like that comes with connections, he was able to clear my record completely when I wanted to get out of Toronto.
Unfortunately, the one thing he could never protect me and my brothers from was Marco. After I got out of Marco's hold my brother Malik tried going after him, Marco found out and had him sentenced to 60 years on false charges.
"In the morning around 6 am Malik's going to be transferred from the detention center to the courthouse for the trialing, by 8 am we should be alerted of the decision, I've already paid the lawyer and given him all the documents. Malik has no idea so I hope all goes well. Around 9 am we should be allowed to pick him up," I say smiling.
I say goodnight to my uncle before heading to my room to sleep. I brush and wash my face before climbing into bed and grabbing my phone to set an alarm.
I see about 15 missed calls from Giovanni alone and a couple from Alex, Sandro, and Tony. I text Alex letting her know I'm safe. I set my alarms, about 10 of them, each 5 minutes apart. Right before I turn my phone off I get a text from Giovanni that warms my heart it reads:
"I miss you so much princess, whatever it is you need to do I trust you, and love you. Goodnight"
