Lina's POV
Sweat drips down my forehead as I follow SWAT through the quiet, empty mall. All the civilians are held on the third floor, so that is where we're going to now.
The Russells—my former foster family who are now mass shooting—probably already know that we're inside.
I watch as one of the officers signals for the team that I am in to move up the stairs.
"Lina, how are you doing?" says Spencer from my earpiece.
"I'm fine," I whisper.
Suddenly, three shots fire and a wave of screams echoes off the walls. We all duck down, ready to shoot.
"We know you're in here!" a man's voice yells, tt's Caleb.
As we continue to move up the stairs, I silently gasp at the number of dead bodies that lie on the floor. Tears well up in my eyes knowing that my foster siblings are a part of this.
All of a sudden, more shots are fired and a few of the officers around me drop to the floor. I look around, trying to find the source and see Caleb holding a sniper.
"Retreat!" I shout and everyone starts backing down the stairs. But it's too late, five more shots are fired, each bullet taking the life of an officer.
Shit! I curse in my head as I run.
Just then, a bullet grazes my thigh and I yelp in pain as I tumble down the stairs.
"Yang? Yang!" Hotch yells through my earpiece.
"They have a sniper!" I quickly stand up and run into a store, out of the line of shot.
"Is everyone okay?" he demands.
I peek my head out and see the lifeless bodies of the officers sprawled on the floor, blood oozing out of their wounds.
"No, sir," I pant, "all officers down."
Hotch takes a deep breath and sighs. "Alright. We're sending in the second team."
I shake my head. "No! It's too dangerous!"
"You need to get out of there now, Yang."
"I can't. Those kids need my help."
"Those kids are shooting people right now," he argues and I sigh.
Just then, I hear footsteps coming my way and I freeze with fear.
"Come out, Lina sweetie!" Caleb yells, firing his gun in the air a few times.
"Yang!" Hotch yells. "Are you safe right now?"
I stick my head out and see Caleb walking into each store. As he gets closer to the one I'm in, I quickly run out and up the stairs.
"Hey!" Caleb fires his gun at me.
I quickly duck behind a pillar and shoot back, hitting him in the shoulder.
"Argh!" he groans in pain and drops to the floor.
He tries reaching for his gun but I finish him off with a shot to the head. Remorse fills me as I remember how he used to play with me as a child.
All of that was an act. I tell myself and I continue up the stairs.
"I got Caleb," I say into my earpiece.
When I get to the second floor I sprint into a nearby store. Out of breath, I sink to the floor from pain and exhaustion, due to the fact that my leg is bleeding and feels like it's on fire.
