Chapter Seventy Nine

When Wang Lei started to wake up after surgery, the sun was beginning to rise. His head felt heavy because of the anaesthesia but it didn't stop the memory of Wang Bao collapsing to fill his mind. Without thinking, Wang Lei started ripping out the IV and heart monitor from his hands when he suddenly caught sight of Nera asleep in the chair beside his bed. Although Nera was in better shape than him, it was clear the Giant hadn't slept or bathed while Wang Lei had been in surgery. Thanks to the pain medicine still having an effect on his body, Wang Lei was able to reach out without hurting his torso and gently rubbed Nera's forearm. Almost instantly, Nera woke up from his light sleep and looked over Wang Lei's body before realising the man was awake and well. However when Nera saw how Wang Lei had pulled out his IV and removed his heart monitor, he couldn't help but think Wang Lei was trying to run away. Before Wang Lei could get in any questions about his brother, Nera was already half kneeling on the large bed and held Wang Lei's swollen face in his hands, as if telling Wang Lei to stay put like a good patient. The warmth from Nera's large hands quickly transferred through Wang Lei's cool skin, helping relax his anxious heart and he reluctantly leaned back. It was only once Wang Lei was properly against the mattress, that Nera gave him a delicate kiss on the forehead to signify his relief in Wang Lei being okay. As soon as Nera pulled away and was certain that Wang Lei wasn't going to run away, he sat back in his own seat before finally speaking.

"The surgeons said you had a lot of internal bleeding but the bullets thankfully missed your organs."

Wang Lei had no interest in his own well being since he was currently more concerned on where Wang Bao was. Because of the tube that had been pushed down Wang Lei's throat during surgery, he felt as if his throat was raw and quickly pointed at the jug of water on the other side of the room. Nera quickly got up and poured Wang Lei a glass but before he could walk back to Wang Lei, Nakai burst through the door. Similar to Nera, Nakai looked to be in desperate need of a shower, sleep and meal but there was no time for self care in Nakai's eyes. In his hand he held a large photo of the long haired man who had shot Wang Lei, and walked across the room to hand it to the man himself in the hopes of getting a quick answer of who the attacker could be. To anyone with decent eyesight they would be able to tell the man and Wang Lei were related in some way, but when Wang Lei saw the image, Nakai wasn't expecting the answer he was given.

"No wonder I'm not dead. This asshole is my older brother, Wang Xiu."

Both Nera and Nakai looked over at one another, surprised to hear there was another brother since neither Wang Lei or Wang Bao had ever mentioned one. While Wang Lei glared at the close up of Wang Xiu's face, Nera raised his eyebrows at Nakai briefly before motioning to the door. Nakai was quick to catch onto what Nera was saying, and looked back at Wang Lei for a split second before walking out of the room. Once it was only Nera and Wang Lei left in the room, Nera returned to Wang Lei's bedside with his water while trying to think of a way to tell Wang Lei, he wouldn't be joining them on their rescue mission. Just when Nera was about to open his mouth, Wang Lei crumpled up the photo he was still holding then said to Nera plainly.

"When do you and Nakai leave? My brother has been gone for almost twelve hours and it's no short trip back to my country. If you plan on saving him before Xiu or my Mother have their way with him, you better hurry up."

Nera almost couldn't believe what he was hearing but he was grateful Wang Lei was thinking about his own health for once. Before Wang Lei could start second guessing his decision to stay, Nera explained the new plan quickly.

"Nakai has already informed all of his troops back home that we'll be going to Man Country. As for the ship, the island's fishing vessel will stay docked until we're ready to leave, which should be within the hour. I promise that we'll get Bao back and deal with your Mother, Lei. Just focus on healing while Nakai and I are away."
