At school I was bombarded by work and smothered in stress, so getting home was like a breath a fresh air after being in a polluted area for a year. As soon as I opened the doors and placed my school bag on the ground, I pulled out my phone and flopped onto the couch.

My mum and I are coming over, have something for me to do

I locked my phone screen and sighed. My mum wasn't home yet which meant I had to entertain them until she arrived.

From: Daniel

Change of plans get your ass to my house

To: Daniel

Pushy, but okay

I locked my phone again and groaned. Since no one could drive me to Dan's I had to walk. I pulled on my shoes again and trudged out the door. My jacket was still on, but I was still cold from the late January air. My nose felt numb as I tried to avoid the ice on the pavement.

Dan's house had always been slightly out of place compared to the rest. It was wider, had a different model, brick and grey panels in the front and a red door rather than white. It was different enough so that if you were walking past you could notice how it seemed slightly gloomier. Made you think something must be weird or odd. Maybe it was true.

A few seconds after I rang the doorbell Dan answered. I could smell his odd scent of cinnamon and spring. There was no other way to describe it, really.

"Come in," He said smiling. Something about it told me it wasn't genuine.

"Hello Phil, your mum should be here shortly!" Mrs. Howell said from the kitchen.

"Alright," I replied.

"Here, let me take your jacket and we can go to my room, yeah?" Dan's eyes shined brightly and it made me want to smile, but I didn't. I simply nodded and took off my coat, handed it to him and we went upstairs.

"Sorry about the mess," He said as I entered.

"It's fine, my room's worse." Dan giggled quietly to himself and sat down at his desk chair.

"What's this?" I asked, picking up an old tattered notebook.

"Nothing, I just doodle in it," He said, taking it from me.

"May I see your doodles?"

"Of course not, they are personal doodles." Dan blushed at his remark and his flushed cheeks made the brown in his eyes glow nicely.

"Are they doodles on a homework sheet or doodles that might just be the best thing you've ever drawn?" He shrugged and placed the notebook on his desk.

"Neither."

"Well than those aren't doodles."

"I can assure that is a doodle book, now can we please stop saying the word doodle?" I nodded and looked away slightly.

"Boys come down!" Dan's mum called.

"That's our queue," Dan said opening his door.

"Okay, I'll be down in a minute I just want to call Tyler," I lied. Dan nodded and shut his door leaving. I quickly opened his notebook and flipped through the pages.

I am a fool for you,
Drop me and slam me against the
darkness and I would still come
back like a lost kitten in the big woods.
if you're not there, I would search
for you all my life, even if I end up
in someone else's arms, I'll only be
praying that they are yours all along.
I am that fool who fell for you.
Forgive me.
