As I walked home I couldn't help but think that maybe I should have listened to Dan and not have run off. He could have explained to mean the real reason he left, and maybe it wasn't just for girls.
As I walked past his street once again, I saw all the lights in his house were on, but all other houses on the street were pitch black. I heard yelling from inside and a door slam shut, and someone wearing all black ran out of the house into the woods behind it. I started to walk more swiftly, trying to get away in case it was Dan and something serious was going on. When I turned the corner I looked behind me and saw the person sitting behind the bushes, and they would have been totally covered if it weren't for their phone light shining on them.
I turned back around and walked the rest of my way home without turning back around to see if they were still there. I felt bad, awful really, because somewhere deep down I had a good feeling that was Dan.

As I was getting ready to go to sleep, my phone started to ring. I set down my toothbrush and spit, rinsing it off and answering the phone.
"Hello?" I said into the phone.
"Ph-Phil? It's D-Dan," He said shakily.
"Why are you crying?" I asked, my curiosity taking over.
"C-Can I come over? J-Just for the n-night," I froze.
"Dan, we never talk anymore, wouldn't that be-" I heard telling in the background and Dan started talking quickly over me.
"I won't bother you! I'll even leave before you're awake, please Phil!" He begged, and the yelling got louder and Dan got more frantic.
"Alright! Just come before I fall asleep," I said and he hung up. I sighed as I splashed my face with water to keep me up. I went downstairs and made two cups of hot chocolate, figuring he would be cold. I filled up the two mugs and put marshmallows in them. I heard knocks on the door, and I opened it to reveal a crying Dan. I quickly stepped aside as he walked in and sat on the couch.
"What's wrong?" I asked as I handed him the mug of hot chocolate.
"Nothing that would affect you, Lester," He mumbled, sipping slowly on his drink.
"I'm trying to help, but how can I if you're going to be like that?" I asked him. He sniffled and looked up at me with read eyes.
"I don't know how to explain it," He said quietly.
"Well, start from the beginning," I said
"Can we just not talk about it? I'm only here to avoid people who make it worse."
"Dan, I want to help so you can be at least somewhat happy. Even though you wouldn't do it for me doesn't mean I wouldn't do it for you."
"Do what?"
"Help! Help you feel better!" He cringed at my yelling and I mumbled a sorry.
"I know that Phil, I just don't like to talk about it, I'm sorry," He started to cry again, so he put down his mug and covered his face with hands, shaking from his muddy jacket and wet jeans. I placed down my mug and he took off his shoes, helping him to my room since he was still shaking. When we got in my room I took out clothes he could borrow as he took off his jacket and jeans, placing them in the corner. I tried not to look at him as I handed him my clothes, but it was tempting. He was somewhat hiding his stomach so I turned around and waited until he tapped me awkwardly to turn around.
"Do you feel better?" I asked, and he nodded sheepishly.
"A little bit, erm- thanks," He mumbled and I nodded, going downstairs to put the mugs in the sink. When I walked back in my room Dan was lying on the bed, half asleep.
