The next day, as expected, was a rush and weird. While Lacey panicked on what to wear, Kailee panicked about the vampires. Yet, that wasn't the weird part. What was, was the fact that Kailee continued to relentlessly gnaw on her forearm with her teeth.

Nobody really understood the habit the werewolf had developed over her childhood years, but they all had odd coping methods, too, so none of them were in any position to judge. In fact, Jeremy found it kind of cute, predictably.

Nick quickly came barging into the room, and everyone's attention turned to him the moment he stepped foot into the doorway. "Dad is in the basement working out ideas. We've got five minutes to get to the car, so hurry up!" After his two second speech that he practically slurred, he raced down the stairs like he was on a sugar high. This just happened to be Nick's way of dealing with anxiety.

"What?! Five minutes!? That is absurd! I have no time to pick an outfit!" Lacey panicked. Kailee huffed, releasing her jaw that was shut tightly around her arm, and snapped her fingers with a sigh. Lacey was now wearing a white frilly top with skinny jeans and cute silver flats. Lacey clapped. "Thanks, Kailee!"

Kailee turned to Jeremy and rolled her eyes. "Girls are so complicated."

"You're a girl," her mate reminded her with an amused smirk and quirked eyebrow.

Kailee shook a finger at him. "I am a tomboy. There is a difference."

He chuckled. "Come on, let's hurry before Nick starts trying to claw his way out of the car."

Predictably, students stared at Kailee and Jeremy the whole day. It was expected since Kailee just joined the high school yesterday, and she was one of the odder individuals the school had in their district.

Kailee pressed herself closer to Jeremy as girls started to glare at her. Jeremy blinked in surprise and looked down at his distrustful mate with shock. She glanced up at him before flushing and pulling away. "Sorry," she mumbled sheepishly.

"No!" Jeremy blurted with a blush. "It's fine, I just...didn't expect it. You know, me being..."

Kailee stared at him curiously as a small smile graced her lips. "You're turning out to be a pretty okay guy, Jeremy."

The vampire grinned brightly and practically smothered her in the middle of the hallway as he unintentionally tried to hug her to death.

"Jeremy! I'm not dead like you, let me breathe!"

The remainder of the day was distracting for the vampire. He could hear Kailee's heartbeat going hundreds of miles an hour, which clearly wasn't healthy, but the female was immensely distracted, and it's not like Jeremy blamed her.

"Ms. Smith?" Their teacher, Mr. Jorrings, called. Kailee's attention snapped towards the man. "Is there something bothering you?" He asked.

"Actually, yes," Kailee confessed. Jeremy choked on his own saliva. "Could I go make a phone call to my brother's school? He was having issues this morning, and-" Kailee was quickly cut off.

"That is a problem, Ms. Smith. You can not leave school just because your brother is feeling unwell. He will call home if he is that bad." He narrowed his eyes at her which she gratefully replied with a menacing glare and a huff.

The bell rang minutes later, and Kailee sprung up, not bothering to gather her things, heading down the hallway with long, purposeful strides.

Jeremy quickly followed his mate, concerned for her. "What's wrong, Kailee?"

"I feel something. Nick is in danger, I know it," Kailee said in determination.

Jeremy smiled at her. "I trust you. If you say something's going on, then I'm with you."

She stopped and looked him in the eyes. She chuckled lowly. "I call you a traitor, yell at you, and accuse you, but you still...God, I never deserved you."

Jeremy smiled softly. "You still trusted me in the end, vampire and all. I was the one who didn't deserve you."

Never in Nick's whole school experience would he have expected to have vampires attack his school. Actually, to tell the truth, he kind of did expect it, but he imagined them trying to drain the blood out of everyone. This was not the case. No, these were targeting him specifically, and he knew why.

Kids screamed, and Nick heard every single shout. He could see a couple of kids being drained, and their screams had imprinted in his young eleven-year-old mind.

They were here because he decided to come. He'd led the vampires here, and now he had led the kids to their death.

Nick never stopped running, speeding out of the doors and towards the trees, hoping desperately he would find Kailee or even a vampire like Jeremy.

Kailee sped quickly through the trees, Jeremy by her side, and her ears perked as she caught the noise of a familiar voice.

"Jeremy, this way!" Kailee urged her mate, turning left.

Nick could be seen in the distance, running towards them with fear in his eyes.

"Nick! What happened?" Kailee barked.

"Vampires," Nick breathed.

They suddenly heard rustling in the trees, and Nick hesitantly took a fighting stance, karate lessons and self defense training techniques beginning to make their way back into his mind from years of being unused.

Kailee's fur stood on her back as she began to snarl and growl, pawing at the dirt beneath her. Jeremy had dropped his fangs from his mouth, the set of fangs long and pointy, obviously a hazard of absolute death to anyone who dared to challenge him.

The small clearing in a midst of trees was now their battlefield, them against an army of vampires who wanted them, and more specifically, Kailee, dead.

Jeremy pulled a large machete from his hoodie that Nick had no clue he possessed and placed it in Nick's sweaty palms. "Use it well," Jeremy told him. Nick nodded in consent.

They had no chance of getting back to the house now. A plan was out of the picture, and they had to wing it from that point.

Nick could only hope his dad was okay, wherever he was, back at the house or in public. He could only imagine Lacey and Chris's faces as they would begin to realize that they were gone, For now, though, Nick knew in his gut that they were safe. And yet, it didn't matter, because Nick would die for Kailee.

She had helped him through so much when he didn't know he'd needed it. She'd cheated death and protected his family with no one protecting her. Now, that was his job.

Jeremy would do the same, Nick knew. Kailee was his mate, after all. Dying for her wasn't much but inevitable in his eyes.

This battle was to be considered hers, this battle used to be considered hers. Now, it was his, as well as Jeremy's, just as much.

The vampires charged.

'Even though nobody would admit it now, not everyone would die for their family. Kailee is just an eighteen-year-old werewolf orphan who could get us all killed. But she is family, and I will die for my family.'

Nick braced himself and swung.

OH MY GOD! That is so heart warming! I have put a lot of emotion into this chapter as well, so I hope you like it! I am so sorry for making everyone wait so long, I had to come up with a way to get to the vampire battle. This book is NOT finished. I still have 1-2 chapters to do, so don't worry, it's not the end. Bye my doggies!
