John, Chris, and Nick had just gotten back from the store when Nick was the first to step in, along with his dad and Chris behind him.
He carried a few bags, and so did his dad and Chris. As he entered the kitchen first, Nick screamed and dropped the bags.
John and Chris rushed in and looked at the kitchen, blood and destruction decorating it.
"Kailee," was all Chris said before following the trail of blood into the woods.
Nick followed after his cousin, as did Nick's dad. The trail stopped at Kailee's body on the ground. John dropped onto his knees and put his ear to her chest to hear a heartbeat before checking desperately for her pulse. He let her wrist drop before looking back at Chris and Nick. His next words had both boys shattering.
"She's gone."

It was two weeks later before Kailee's funeral was held. John had paid for it and set it all up at the church near the road by their house.
Since Kailee didn't have many people she knew to come to the funeral, John had called his side of the family along with his wife's side, too.
They told them how they took care of Kailee and protected her, leaving out the supernatural bits for obvious reasons. Chris even brought his girlfriend.
They were all sitting in the seats of the church waiting for John's queue to give his speech.
The preacher began to speak. "Would anyone like to say some words?"
John slowly stood up and walked to the pedestal. He stepped behind it and looked behind him to see Kailee's closed casket, knowing that her lifeless body was in there.
Steeling himself, he looked forward. "When we found Kailee, she was strong and very kind. Nick took her in and when she saw me, she almost killed me," John started, and everyone laughed. "But then she got used to me. She was very close to us despite the little time we spent together. She was on the streets for a reason, but she was always very outgoing and happy. She didn't deserve to die. Kailee was like the light to bring us joy. When we came home and found her dead in the woods...I'll admit, I wanted to cry, but I stayed strong for my son. I stayed strong for Chris. I stayed strong for Kailee. For her sake. I-"
John was cut off when he and the rest of the church heard a banging noise behind him. He looked to see the casket shaking, and John knew everyone in the isles noticed it, too.
The casket lid flew off, and the whole church couldn't believe their eyes.
Okay... so I'm pretty sure you all know what's going to happen. Like, come on! I'm not going to end the book that early. I'm not THAT cruel. See ya later doggies!
