It'd been ten years, and Kailee still missed her family, her mate, but it was easier to handle when she realized they would be safer without her.
'Keep moving, Kailee!' She scolded herself mentally. 'Damn cops, I didn't do shit!'
She'd been living in New York since there was so many people to blend in with, and it wasn't like people looked for werewolves where there wasn't much space to roam and run. She still shifted, but never during the day and never around people. She'd dyed her hair with blue streaks, too, something to signal a fresh start and new identity.
Unfortunately, New York was also full of pretentious douche bags, and that included cops, too. Some creep had tried to tackle her, so she defended herself. Two dumbass cops had seen the man on the ground and her tackling him, so they got the wrong idea. Kailee had tried to explain, but neither cop wanted to hear what she had to say.
Hurriedly, Kailee fled across the park, relentless cops still on her tail. She stumbled over a curb suddenly and tripped, landing in someone's arms.
The werewolf looked up to see a man in his early twenties. He had brunette colored hair and blue eyes with a very familiar face.
"Are you alright?" He asked kindly in concern as he helped her stand upright.
Without thinking about it, Kailee quickly grabbed his hand and dragged him into the closest building, running up a flight of stairs and pulling him into an unlocked janitor's closet with her.
"Can you help me escape some fruit loop cops?" She asked him, watching as his eyes widened comically.
"And why?" He questioned skeptically.
"Because some creep tried to grab me, and I did what any sane person would do and defended myself. They saw me attack the dude, so now they have the wrong idea," she explained wryly, rolling her eyes.
He gave her an odd look as he laughed. It was so familiar to her, but she couldn't place how. "Well, I'm Nick Smith, and you are?"
Kailee froze as an old memory came rushing back to her.
"Nicholas Jordan Smith! Who do you have in this bedroom?! I will not repeat my question!" Nick's dad's voice boomed through the house.
"What's your middle name?" She asked a bit too quickly.
"Why?" He asked in confusion
What is it?" She demanded sharply.
"Jordan," he answered slowly, eyeing her.
Kailee's eyes widened in disbelief as she crushed him into a hug. "I didn't think I would ever see you again! Oh, and you're all grown up!" She cried, a few happy tears rolling down her cheeks.
He pulled away, holding up his hands. "Woah, lady, I don't know you."
"Look closer, Nick! Okay, I'm older and dyed my hair a bit, but look closer. Who am I, Nick?" The female asked him as she stared into his eyes.
Nick looked at her, frowning with narrowed eyes, before gasping. "K-Kailee? Is it really you?" He choked out, tears threatening to spill from his eyes.
"It's me, Nick," she promised with a tearful laugh. "It's Kailee."
He pulled her into a tight hug. "You know, the others are here too, right?"
Kailee cocked her head at him. "Chris, Lacey, Jeremy, and John?"
Nick's eyes turned sad, a glistening glaze overlapping them. "Dad...died two years ago."
Kailee swallowed thickly, tears springing to her eyes. "I'm so selfish. I never even got to say goodbye properly..."
"It's okay, Kailee. We all knew you meant well. It was his time," Nick assured her.
"Do you want to come back?" He asked.
"Home?" She whispered in awe. "Come...home?"
He smiled gently. "Yes, Kailee, home."
Because that's what they were to her. Home.

"Here it is." Nick gestured to the hotel room. "We're all sharing." He laughed.
Both of them heard the click of a door opening, and they whipped around to see Lacey, Chris, and Jeremy walk in.
Lacey and Chris looked at her in confusion, but Jeremy could feel his mate bond pull him towards her, and he knew immediately who Kailee was. He rushed to her and kissed her full on for the first time since they'd met. Kailee responded right away, glad she had finally gotten past her trust issues with him.
Chris and Lacey just looked even more confused after the display of affection. Kailee grinned and waved. "Hi, guys! Miss me?"
"Who are you?" Lacey asked.
Kailee rolled her eyes. "Oh, come on! Jeremy kisses me, and you can't guess who I am? Come on, Lacey, I'm your best friend!"
"Kailee!" Lacey screeched as she launched herself at her friend.
Chris's eyes widened, and he laughed. "Where have you been? It's been dull without you!"
Kailee giggled and pulled him in for a hug after pulling away from Lacey. "Can I stay? Can I come home?"
"We never wanted you to leave," Nick told her.
"Remember, Kailee, these people care."
Kailee shut her eyes tightly and cried. 'I know, Mom. I was stupid to let them go once, and I'm never letting go of them ever again.'
The end of this book is here! Hope you guys enjoyed my book! Bye my doggies!
