Lan Wangji was steaming with anger. The pressure from work and the stress from the cunning writer were messing up his rhythm.
Their Head Officer Jiang Cheng sent him a message, after several failed call attempts, saying the detective is temporarily out of the homicide team for now until the stalking case of writer Wei Wuxian is solved. 'Take the case. Order from above.' It wrote.
Wangji hated to agree but Wei Wuxian's words were true enough. He is nothing but a hound dog licking dirt for the higher ups. He had no say to what case he would or could take. They could move him around like a chess piece, demote him or kick him out of his office as they please. He is just a simple subordinate afterall.
Gritting his teeth, "I'll follow behind." Wangji submitted to the devious man. Rage was consuming him but he knew he had to act professionally especially in front of the 'crazy bastard'. He should not let his presence affect his work ethics again.
Wangji embarked on his motorcycle, roaring the machine to life, when he felt his ride dip and a pair of arms wrapped around his waist. "Just making sure you won't run off." The man cheekily explained from his back.
"Hands off." Wangji glared.
"Still not fond of touches after all these years, hmn?" The man taunted but surrendered to the command, pulling his hands away obediently.
It was a quiet ride back to Beijing Headquarters where Wangji was briefed of the writer's dilemma. Handing all the case's notes to Wangji, Jiang Cheng mouthed a silent 'Sorry.' to the esteemed detective. The young officer held no grudge to his superior, accepting the apology with a single nod.
Eyes followed the two handsome men, Wangji and Wuxian, as they left the department. One face was stone cold and grim, whereas the other was smirking as if he was deeply amused by something.
Wangji could hear the heresays and gossips stirring within its walls. He ignored it as usual and walked away uncaring, but the man besides him is another case. Wei Wuxian proves himself a Master of Misconduct once more.
Seeing the demeaning look some are giving his Lan Zhan, his mouth sneered threateningly, one should be wary of his life. In a blink, an officer's throat is wrapped on his beautiful fingers. "Are you trying to offend me Officer?"
Officers cluttered around, some shocked, some enraged, but most are frightened at what was happening. This Wei Wuxian is the heir of the powerful Wei Empire. Even politicians bow to their power and wouldn't dare offend any of its family members.
"N-No, S-Sir." The once arrogant man squirmed on his hold, gasping for breath.
Wuxian's head tilted, entertained by the fear on the man's eyes. He further tightened his grip on his neck. "But I saw you sneering our way. Are you saying I have mistakenly seen it?"
"Wei Wuxian!" Wangji glowered and grabbed Wuxian's wrist demanding him to let go of his colleague.
Wuxian turned his head to Wangji, smirking at him before he loosened his hand on the poor guy. He discreetly hid his blood-soaked bandaged hand in his pocket, eyes wandering back on the coughing officer on the floor, noting his name. "Clear your table now, Mr. Wen. It's time for you to retire."
"S-Sir--! Please! I am too young to retire!" The man who's only 30 years old kowtowed begging to keep his job but his request landed on deaf ears.
Cheng came a bit later on pulling Wen Chao off the floor. But Wei Wuxian has already gone off the site, the heir's words irreversible.
"Sh*t!" Cheng cursed.
